DEWA launches ‘Strategy Pioneers’ initiative

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), today launched the Strategy Pioneers initiative at Jumeirah Madinat Jumeirah in Dubai in collaboration with organisations that have achieved excellence and entered the Hall of Fame for implementing their strategies in the region. The event was attended by HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA, HE Hussain Lootah, Director General of Dubai Municipality, HE Abdullah Al Shaibani, Secretary General of the Dubai Executive Council, HE Adnan Al Mohaisen, CEO of the Gulf Cooperation Council Interconnection Authority (GCCIA), DEWA’s Executive Vice Presidents, representatives from regional pioneering organisations in executing strategy, and a number of senior officials from government departments and the private sector. Organisations that entered the Hall of Fame participated in the event as founder members. These included the Dubai Executive Council, Dubai Police, Dubai Municipality, Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority, Dubai Aluminum (Dubal), Bahrain Electricity and Water Authority, and the Bahrain Ministry of Works. “This initiative supports the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. We see this as an inspiration to achieve the goals of the UAE and our leadership,” said Al Tayer. “This initiative will serve as a platform for knowledge partnership and to exchange information, experience, international best practices, administrative updates in strategy planning, and to develop strategic planning systems. It will also enable strategic management in government, semi-government and private organisations in the region. “This initiative promotes efficient management systems by bringing together the Hall of Fame Award winners to share their knowledge and international best practices for continuous improvement, sustaining achievements and promoting a strategy-focused culture to achieve breakthrough results,” said Al Tayer. “DEWA started to position itself for excellence through several key phases: establishment, followed by development and improvement, and then comprehensive quality phases supported by the efforts of the Dubai Government Excellence Program. In 2000, DEWA began to apply the Balanced Scorecard system as part of its strategy planning mechanism and strategy implementation and management. DEWA achieved the Hall of fame Award in 2008 for executing strategy and actively continues to implement the principles of a Strategy-Focused Organisation: that leadership drives strategy, translating corporate strategy into operational terms, aligning these strategies and cascading them to every employee, making strategy an every day job for everyone and last but not least, making it a continuous process,” continued Al Tayer “We lead the region in the application of the third generation of Balanced Scorecard and the application of the principles of strategic organisation. We entered the Hall of Fame in strategic planning in 2008 for the implementation of the strategy. DEWA continues to effectively apply the principles of the Strategy-Focused Organisation: from the support and commitment of senior leadership to the planning and implementation of strategy. We harmonise the Strategic Plan with the operational plans of the divisions that implement strategy,” concluded Al Tayer. The event concluded with founder members of the Strategy Pioneers initiative signing a partnership agreement. The initiative will include an annual workshop and regular meetings where member companies will meet to review corporate strategy, strategic planning and implementation, and key achievements. It will attract global speakers on selected subjects in the field of strategic planning and implementation, seminars on how corporate strategic work can be developed and partnership potentials among members.
