Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has launched the third phase of its Green Bill paperless electronic invoicing system. The Green Bill supports DEWA’s vision to become a sustainable world-class utility and contributes to the Green Economy for Sustainable Development initiative. As of 22 June 2014, a total of 197,119 customers had registered to receive the Green Bill since its introduction in August 2012. This has helped to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 193.3 tons. The Green Bill is an electronic version of the traditional paper bill and is sent to customers via email. DEWA encourages its customers to use the various electronic services it offers and learn about how to use them. By introducing the Green Bill, DEWA aims to preserve natural resources and promote customer satisfaction. “Launching the Green Bill supports the Green Economy for Sustainable Development initiative launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to promote Dubai’s sustainable development. It also supports the Smart Government initiative announced by His Highness to upgrade service quality. The electronic billing system helps DEWA’s customers to get the information conveniently and enables them to do their transactions online. The solution, which takes into account the latest environmental standards, reflects DEWA’s pioneering initiatives to achieve environmental sustainability, for generations to come.” “The third phase of the Green Bill system further underlines the success of the first two phases since its launch. The initiative, in its third phase, conserves natural resources, and enhances the quality of DEWA’s services to the best international standards. It stresses DEWA’s commitment to serving its customers and achieving the highest satisfaction levels. Discussions are being held with different government departments and organisations to promote the Green Bill and make use of our new electronic services to enable DEWA to meet its sustainability values and objectives,” added Al Tayer. “During the third phase, DEWA will stop issuing paper bills. Electronic bills will be sent by email to consumers. It is important that customers supply DEWA with their updated email addresses at the soonest to receive their Green Bills. We are working to include all segments of society in this initiative to raise environmental awareness, protect the environment and ensure sustainability,” said Abdullah Al Hajri, Executive Vice President of Customer Services at DEWA. “We are currently working with large customers, including government departments, organisations and large corporations, to adopt the Green Bill. Emirates Airlines, RTA, Dubai Municipality, Emaar, and Nakheel have already registered for the Green Bill and DEWA will stop sending paper bills to them. Shifting to the green electronic bills provides a convenient, safe and quick way for customers to check their monthly bills anytime, anywhere. It also enables customers to keep records of all their bills and electronic payments,” added Al Hajri.
