DEWA supports Ramadan Aman road safety campaign

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is supporting Al Ihsan Charity Association’s distribution of Iftar boxes to DEWA employees who are fasting during Ramadan. The initiative aims to promote a culture of volunteerism and reflects social unity within the UAE. The move is in response to the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to observe the 19th day of the holy month of Ramadan as Zayed Humanitarian Day in tribute to the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and to mark the day with a range of initiatives. The move commemorates the spirit of generosity and giving that has become synonymous with the name of the late Sheikh Zayed, and to promote the Emirati culture of giving. DEWA is also a main sponsor of the Ramadan Aman ‘Safe Ramadan’ campaign which the Ajman-based Al Ihsan Charity Association is launching for the third consecutive year. As part of the initiative, Iftar meals are distributed to drivers on the roads and at traffic intersections at Maghreb prayers during Ramadan, in collaboration with police departments in the different emirates. DEWA’s support of the campaign is part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) and its keenness to sponsor and support charitable projects and to educate drivers to adhere to traffic laws. It also encourages individuals and organisations to promote community service and enable members of society to participate in volunteer work. During the campaign, which extends to different areas of the UAE, 200,000 Iftar meals will be distributed at heavy-traffic roads and main intersections at Maghreb time in collaboration with police departments in the emirates. 400 volunteers are participating in the campaign, which is running throughout Ramadan to limit traffic accidents and curb speeding. The objective behind this effort is to save the lives of drivers, who usually speed during Ramadan rush hour before Maghreb prayer, by stressing the importance of abiding by traffic rules and avoiding speeding, which increases the risk of accidents. The campaign also encourages individuals and organisations to take part in community service and voluntary work.
