DEWA invites the public to WETEX 2015 seminars

Dubai, UAE, 22 April 2015: WETEX seminars and workshops began at the 17th Water, Enry, Technology, and Environment Exhibition (WETEX 2015), which is organised under the directives of HH eikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and under the patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Minister of Finance, and President of DEWA. The seminars have been very popular among WETEX visitors on the first two days of the show. A large number of specialists and the public participated in the interactive seminars. Day 1 seminars attracted over 650 people. Topics discussed included the use of water and energy pipelines and meeting the demand for energy and the challenges of choosing cables, techniques and business-cycles for green environment, ways of integrating traditional and solar energy, and the future of solar energy. DEWA also organised a brainstorming session about ways to improve WETEX. HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, Chairman and Founder of WETEX called upon the public to take advantage of the seminars and discussion sessions, which are administered by a number of experts and specialists from international organisations. “DEWA organises these scientific and technical seminars and workshops each year at WETEX to engage sponsors and exhibitors in discussions at these sessions, which we see as the ideal platform to explore the latest technologies and developments in energy, water, environment, oil and gas globally, regionally and locally. These sessions continue the success of the seminars that are organised each year alongside the WETEX 2015 and they support our vision to become a sustainable innovative world-class utility,” said Al Tayer. These seminars have become an integral part of WETEX every year. A significant share of the exhibition visitors show interest in the seminars as they enrich their knowledge and keep them abreast of advancements in sectors like energy, water and environmental sustainability. This year’s programme has 30 seminars, added Al Tayer. “The ultimate goal of inviting renowned international speakers to take part in these seminars is to support the exhibition’s theme, which is ‘At the forefront of sustainability’ by exchanging knowledge and expertise in the best technologies and practices to rationalise the use of energy and water resources and inform participants about the solutions that achieve sustainability,” he added. Day one had 8 seminars hosted various companies. Gulf Eternit Industries presented on ‘Reliability and Efficiency of Glass-Reinforced Plastic Pipes for Infrastructure and Water Applications,’ given by. Ahmad Mehwe. It was followed by Siemens’ seminar on Meeting the Middle East Energy Demand with Trusted Operational Excellence, presented by Dr. Kais Sfar. Ducab presented a seminar entitled Cable Selection Challenges, which was addressed by Sami Ballour and Khadija Alhammadi. Ducab's seminar was followed by a seminar for Yingli Solar, called From Sand to Electricity - The Technology and Commercial Cycle to a Green Efficient Environment Benefiting Humankind,’ delivered by Evangelos Lianos. Berlin Water Management Engineers presented a seminar called ‘Flood Protection for a City in the Desert,’ given by Professor Heiko Sieker and Ralph Heinrich. This was followed by a seminar for Abengoa called Merging Traditional Generation and Solar Energy, A Way for Improvement, given by Mario Alguacil Algarrada. Andrea Lovato from ACWA Power presented a seminar called ‘The Potential of Solar Energy in the Middle East and Gulf,’ and the last session of the day was DEWA’s brainstorming session for WETEX, conducted by Aminuddin Aslam. 11 seminars were organised on Wednesday. The first was by ADECO, entitled ‘Telescopic Boom Water and Foam Towers and Long-Distance Pumping Systems - Ideal Combinations For Protecting Critical Infrastructure,’ by Esa Louhelainen and CD Sripathi. ABB also presented a seminar on ‘Automating the Entire Water Cycle with ABB Technology,’ by Satheesh Selvakumar. ENOC sponsored a seminar on ENOC Energy and Resource Management’ by Alia Ali Busamra. Veolia presented a seminar on the ‘Smart Water Box’ by Genest Carteir. Jeddah Cables Company presented a seminar on ‘VCV line construction, Technology and Advantages,’ by Dr. Jaber M A Dandachi. Lucy Electric’s presentation was on ‘Improvement in Quality of Service through Automation System Design,’ by Tim Spearing. The seventh seminar for the second day was by Elemko on ‘Effective Procedures to Develop a Safe and Cost-Effective Grounding System for HV Substations,’ by Dr. Nikolaos D. Kokkinos. It was followed by an Sonitec Vortisand’s ‘High-Capacity Submicron Cross-Flow Microsand Filtration,’ presented by Nikhil Bhatia. The ninth seminar was from BWA Water Additives on ‘Biodegradable Antiscalant for Reverse Osmosis,’ which was given by Dave Rose. The tenth seminar was by TransPower Company about ‘Electrical Power Quality Issues in the Building - Causes, Challenges and Remedies,’ by Adil Khan. The last seminar of the day was by MAF DALKIA on Guaranteed Energy Savings Are The Keystone To Develop Energy Performance Contracts: Case Study by Francisco Silverio Marques. The third day of WETEX will feature 11 seminars as follows: A seminar for Dubai Investments called ‘Innovative Coloured Solar Glass for Enhanced Building Integration of Solar Energy Systems,’ that will be addressed by Rafic Hanbali. BASF’s Andreas Birchner will talk about ‘Sustainable Solution Steering - How to drive sustainable solutions.’ Middle East Solar Industry Association (MESIA) will present its ‘Review of Solar Growth in the Middle East’ by Imtiaz Mahtab. ALSTOM will also present a seminar on ‘A IEC61850 approach in Digitising Substation by Mr. Mohamed Farook and Gulzar Ahmadh. Ericsson will deliver a seminar on ‘Smart Metering in Power and Water and Smart Grid Communication,’ by Marie F. Strannegard. The sixth seminar will be by Dubai Municipality on ‘Green Economy - Dubai's Paradigm Shift in using Methane Gas as Renewable Energy,’ by Rashed Karkain. The seventh seminar will be by Advancity on The Advancity Offer to Foster Competitiveness and Efficiency of Cities and Territories based on Research and Innovation and will be given by Florence Castel. The next seminar, by Siemens, will be on ‘Active Network Management - A Case For Solar Integration to Distribution Grid,’ by Shashavali Punner. The ninth seminar will be by HOMA on Energy Efficiency in Waste Water by Stefan Rau. The tenth seminar is by Advantech on ‘Embedded Systems Enter A New Era,’ by Janice Chou. The final seminar is by SENSUS on ‘Developing and Benefiting from Intelligent Water Networks,’ hosted by Ian Sykes.
