DEWA Women's Committee completes Abayaty project and forms Danat team

The Women’s Committee at Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has completed the Abayaty (Arabic for my abaya) project, which it launched in 2011, in collaboration with Human Appeal International UAE. The project’s objective is to provide clothing for over 3,000 needy families each year. It also enhances its contributions to serving society and develops teamwork and volunteering. The Women's Committee has allocated designated boxes in a number of DEWA’s buildings to collect abayas, which are then folded and bagged. The Committee has assigned a number of volunteers from DEWA’s female staff to communicate with the contributors and facilitate collecting donations. The Committee also formed the Danat team, which consists of DEWA’s female employees in various divisions and departments. The team supports the Committee’s efforts to enhance effective participation of female staff in the key events that the Women Committee organises all year round. This helps promote women’s role at the personal, social, and professional levels. “DEWA Women’s Committee effectively contributes to supporting social development in Dubai by organising a number of innovative events and initiatives that support women’s role in all areas. This contributes to achieving the vision of our wise leadership to promote women’s leading role in society, and enhance the UAE’s position as a role model for women’s empowerment,” said Khawla Al Mehairi, Vice President of Marketing & Corporate Communications at DEWA. Al Mehairi noted that DEWA’s Women’s Committee promotes cooperation and joint work with charities, women's committees in government organisations, and other stakeholders. This achieves the Committee’s vision and objectives and enhances its contributions not in only in DEWA, but in society as a whole. “Launching the Abayaty project by the Women’s Committee for the fifth consecutive year, complements the project’s success since its launch in 2011. Completing the project supports our social responsibility to support charitable and humanitarian work and bring joy to those in need, especially during the Holy Month of Ramadan,” said Fatima Deemas, Vice Chairperson of the DEWA Women’s Committee.
