Dubai Electricity and Water Authority’s (DEWA’s) women’s sports teams and individual players continue their excellent results in the Sheikha Hind Women's Sports Tournament 2015, despite the fact that the female sports teams were recently formed, less than a month before the start of the tournament. Sheikha Hind Women's Sports Tournament is organised by the Dubai Sports Council’s Women's Sports Committee based on the directives of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, and under the patronage of HH Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum bin Juma Al Maktoum, Wife of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. In the Road Race, which was held on the 4th of September 2015, DEWA’s running team won the first place, earning a gold medal in the teams category. DEWA’s staff also scored high in the individual category, where DEWA staff Suad Abdulla came second and Nada Khaled third. DEWA’s basketball team tops their group in the runner-ups and is qualified to complete the finals. DEWA has also qualified to the quarter-finals in badminton. “We thank organisers of the Sheikha Hind Women's Sports Tournament 2015 for their excellent efforts in organising this championship, which is dedicated to Dubai Government’s female staff. We are proud of the results DEWA’s female staff have achieved. They were prepared for the tournament in a record time. DEWA’s women sports teams were formed less than a month before the tournament. Despite the players’ excellent performance, we focus on fair play and instilling a sporting spirit among DEWA’s women staff,” said Khawla Al Mehairi, Chairperson of DEWA’s Women’s Committee. “This Tournament coincides with the UAE's celebrations of the Emirati Women's Day. At DEWA, we value and appreciate such sports activities, which support DEWA’s Women’s Committee’s efforts to create a positive and encouraging work environment for female staff that balances between their professional and social lives. Since its establishment, DEWA’s Women’s Committee has adopted a comprehensive approach to develop women staff in all areas. DEWA takes care of its female staff and encourages them to exercise since sports and physical activities are key to a healthy lifestyle. It stimulates positive energy and strengthens collaboration and social communications among them,” added Al Mehairi. The Sheikha Hind Women's Sports Tournament consists of 8 championships in individual and team categories. DEWA’s Women’s sport’s teams are participating in basketball, handball, road race, badminton, cycling, chess and swimming competitions.
