DEWA organises Excellence Camp for senior management

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has held an excellence camp for senior managers at the Grand Hyatt hotel in Dubai. The camp was attended by HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, EVPs, VPs, senior managers and managers at DEWA. The camp focused on the roles and skills of leaders as well as assessments, studies and workshops on the roles and skills of leaders in achieving DEWA’s vision, mission and objectives through evaluation, preparatory seminars, and reports, to instil a culture of corporate excellence.

DEWA held its first excellence camp over 6-9 September 2015, and the second on 13-16 September in Raffles Dubai. The two camps saw participation by 165 employees from different divisions and departments of DEWA. We organise this camp to achieve the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to promote excellence and innovation and support the vision of creating a world-class government.

I would like to emphasise that leaders' skills, knowledge, and management competencies backed with development and continuous monitoring and evaluation are key factors for success. DEWA’s success is attributed to its leadership efforts to achieve its vision to become a sustainable innovative world-class utility. Leadership efficiency is measured by its capability to be able to cope with change and build on change to develop and grow. This adds to our responsibilities to cope with and anticipate current and future challenges, locally and globally.

Traditional management no longer exists because the amount of change around us has pushed us to respond with new methods and approaches,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, during the opening speech. We will implement our new vision to focus on creativity, technically and administratively, to provide innovative creative solutions. We will also equip our leaders to achieve the Dubai Plan 2021, DEWA 2021, and develop the Triple Bottom Line to create social well-being, build a sustainable economic advantage and create harmony with our environment. We will build an institutional culture based on a mix of sustainability, creativity, and positioning ourselves globally. We will further enhance our values, flexibility, agility, corporate governance and corporate social responsibility. Added to this, we will focus on gauging efficiency and effectiveness for our initiatives, processes and activities.

We will streamline the cycle of excellence, which implements, reviews, evaluates, assesses and continuously improves,” added Al Tayer. “We should focus on change management, team-building, guidance and training to build new skills that cope with external changes and smart electronic communication. We will also forecast the future by setting up alternative plans developed and based due diligence. Moreover, we will focus on results being a clear indicator of the success of plans and achievements. We will enhance our interaction with customers, suppliers, and partners. We will listen to them and boost our communication with them, even internationally. We will empower our leaders, managers, and employees by leveraging on their key strengths to develop a quality workforce with training and a 360-degree assessment programme.

In addition, We should develop quality programmes in knowledge management to utilise DEWA's staff and expertise to serve DEWA’s strategic goals and achieve employee happiness by putting a rewarding programme in place based on productivity and performance. We will also focus on nationals and Emiratisation, boosting customer experience and communication in unconventional ways,” added Al Tayer.
