DEWA is gold sponsor of first Shukran Mohammed Football Tournament


Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is gold sponsor of the first Shukran Mohammed Football Tournament 2015, as a symbol of its gratitude to HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The event will take place at the Dubai Police Officers Club in November, with the participation of 24 teams from government departments, organisations and universities.

The tournament has been launched in collaboration with the General Authority of Youth and Sports Welfare, and Dubai Police General Department of Community Service, Department of Sports Affairs. 384 players, including UAE national citizens and residents representing government and private organisations, Arab and foreign communities, universities, and schools for people over the age of 18, are taking part.

DEWA’s team has already achieved impressive results. In the first match against the Shukran Khalifa team, they won 15-1. The team beat Abela by 6-1, and against the Sheikh Zayed Housing Programme team, they won 3-2.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, expressed his happiness at DEWA’s sponsorship of the first Shukran Mohammed Football Tournament 2015, noting that it represents the wise directives and futuristic vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to support innovation in sports, developing and encouraging sporting achievements and government innovation at an individual and groups locally, regionally and internationally. Al Tayer observed that this sponsorship shows gratitude to His Highness, who is dedicated to encouraging sports as a means of civilised communication between cultures.

The tournament will host teams of rising stars and ex-professional players. Large number of sponsors and stakeholders are participating in the event, which will result in wide audience reach and interaction through social media engagement. The tournament’s organising committee has allocated special prizes for winners, in addition to cups, medals and trophies for all participating teams and sponsors.
