Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is the first government organisation to launch a Cyber Defence Centre to protect its assets proactively. The move reflects DEWA’s commitment to becoming a sustainable, innovative world-class utility, by adopting innovation to make Dubai a safer place for visitors and residents, while providing ease and efficiency. The Centre will limit potential cyber risks through proactive surveillance of DEWA’s services and technical assets.

“DEWA follows a clear strategy, based on the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to further develop government services to become more efficient and reliable, in compliance with set international standards and guidelines and by adopting the latest protection solutions, and making them a priority,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.

“We continuously adopt techniques that assure the security, and reliability of our services and are keen to strengthen the UAE’s position as a model, putting the happiness, security, and comfort of our people first. DEWA continues to remain committed to contributing to making Dubai a leader in the eyes of other developing smart cities by making use of the most advanced practices in information security as one of foundations of smart cities,” added Al Tayer.

“Our electricity and water services in Dubai are based around the principles of availability, efficiency and reliability. We study all possibilities, and potential dangers that may affect our operational process or the quality of services that we offer our customers across the emirate. We will continue to take all preventative measures to avoid danger and integrate new frameworks to improve results and achieve the best results for our government, to enhance DEWA’s level of international competitiveness,” concluded Al Tayer.

“DEWA strives to stand at the forefront among other countries in the use of these new, integrated technologies. We understand the importance of dealing immediately with potential security threats, and have established the first cyber defence centre to predict threats ahead of time and conduct any required preventative procedures to protect data, by monitoring our services and technical assets around the o’clock, handling incidents with care, and limiting the effects of potential threats,” said Moza Al Akraf, CIO of DEWA.

This enhances the UAE’s abilities to face potential threats and assures continuity of work and quickly recovering from security-related incidents through preparation and taking all necessary preventative steps.
