UAE Water Aid Foundation launches design competition for Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Award logo

The UAE Water Aid Foundation (UAE Suqia), one of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, has launched a competition to design the logo of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Award, which was launched by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and is worth USD 1 million. The competition is one of the efforts to fulfil the country’s vision to build a knowledge-based economy, with a focus on technology, research, development, and innovation. The UAE Water Aid Foundation encourages leading organisations, research centres, and innovators from around the world, to compete to find sustainable and innovative solutions to water shortages by using solar energy.

The UAE Water Aid Foundation will provide the award, which falls under the umbrella of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, one of the largest development and community foundations in the region. It consolidates the work of 28 organisations and targets over 130 million people over the coming years. The primary goals of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives include four main sectors: Fighting Poverty, Dissemination of Knowledge, Community Empowerment, and Innovation for the Future.

“The UAE Water Aid Foundation launched a competition to design the logo of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Award, in line with the wise leadership’s vision of developing the country’s potential and innovative abilities to achieve the National Innovation Strategy, launched by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to make the UAE one of the most innovative countries in the world. The competition also emphasises HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s commitment to providing an environment that is capable of supporting creativity and innovation. In addition, the competition encourages university students to innovate, design and participate in improving sustainable development,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the UAE Water Aid Foundation.

Current universities taking part include the American University of the UAE, Zayed University, the American University of Sharjah, the American University of Dubai, the University of Sharjah, United Arab Emirates University and the Khalifa University of Science, Technology, and Research.

Designs should focus on Research and Development, and innovation in water scarcity or solar sustainable solutions to combat global water scarcity.
