DEWA participates in the 4th Sheikha Hind Women’s Sports Tournament

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) announced its participation in the 4th Sheikha Hind Women’s Sports Tournament organised by the Dubai Sports Council Women's Sports Committee. The tournament adheres to the directives of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Sports Council, and is held under the patronage of HH Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum bin Juma Al Maktoum, wife of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The tournament is being held from 19-31 October, 2016.

“DEWA takes priority in participating in the Sheikha Hind Women’s Sports Tournament, as it is named after HH Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum bin Juma Al Maktoum. Our participation in the tournament is part of our efforts to support our female employees, empower them, and encourage them to be innovative in all fields, while improving their skills and abilities, allowing them to benefit, particularly in the work environment,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.

“DEWA is committed to empowering female professionals across a number of different fields, to positively contribute towards community, society, and sustainable development, by enhancing their roles. Our strategy aims to activate and support the roles played by all women, while enhancing their abilities and contribution to the community,” added Al Tayer.

“46 of DEWA’s female employees will participate in the tournament. DEWA Women’s Committee adopts a comprehensive approach that explores the different aspects that matter to women. It translates these into plans and programmes that develop women’s personal and life skills, while providing a positive and motivating work environment, enabling them to balance their professional and family lives. This will also improve their health and fitness. The Committee encourages female employees to exercise to improve their physical, psychological, and social health, improve skills and abilities, and achieve happiness,” said Khawla Al Mehairi, Vice President of Marketing & Corporate Communications at DEWA, and Chairperson of DEWA Women’s Committee.

“The committee collaborates with women’s associations and committees of other government entities to achieve mutual strategic objectives and national strategies, and the vision and goals of the committee. DEWA is participating in all individual and group games included in the Sheikha Hind Women’s Sports Tournament. This includes basketball, bowling, volleyball, swimming, badminton, chess, cycling, hand-ball, and road races,” concluded Al Mehairi.
