DEWA wins third place in NAS Wheelchair Tournament

 DEWA wins third place in NAS Wheelchair Tournament

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA)’s team ranked third after actively participating in the wheelchair basketball competition in the 5th Nad Al Sheba Sports Tournament (NAS). This supports DEWA's keenness to participate actively in various sport events and activities, in adherence with the directives of the wise leadership, that sports are part of the culture of UAE society.

The tournament took place under the patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Chairman of the Executive Council for Dubai Government and Chairman of Dubai Sports Council, under the slogan “Un-limited Capabilities”. The event is the largest of its kind during the holy month of Ramadan, in terms of the number of athletes participating and the variety of games listed.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA congratulated DEWA’s team members on their efforts and outstanding performance in all stages of the competition. He expressed his sincere happiness in the active participation that took place in the wheelchair competitions. He highlighted that the people of determination are not weakened by challenges; instead, it enhances their determination and willpower. He added that they are an essential part of the community that needs to be strongly integrated in our society.

“DEWA is keen on supporting sports activities at all levels to strengthen the culture of interest in sports among the community, as HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, wanted sports to become part of the lifestyle, to have a great impact on the improvement of spirit, body and behaviour, as well as spread happiness in society and preserve public health. In addition, it enhances the spirit of human and cultural harmony, and rapprochement among the different segments of our society in the UAE,” said Al Tayer.

“DEWA was honoured to sponsor the NAS Sports Tournament, which has become the focus of sports fans of all ages. It has become a distinct arena where the best players and elite sports stars compete in different sports and games, especially since this year, like the previous one, includes many competitions for people of determination. Its motto reflects the strong attention that our leadership place on this important category of our cohesive community. The competitions revealed many national talents from all sports orientations, who found an opportunity to reveal and develop these talents optimally through these strong world-class competitions,” said Dr Yousef Al Akraf, Executive Vice President of Business Support and Human Resources, and Chairman of DEWA’s Sports Committee.

DEWA team included Mane Juma Al Kindi, Rayan Dominic, Patrick Koredo, Marino Poik, Fahd Mohammed Ali Mohammed Salem, Badr Al Hosiny, Abdullah Saeed, and Nabil Al Dousry.

The number of sports in the fifth edition of NAS Sports Tournament has risen to 9 sports with prizes exceeding AED 6 million. This year included “Tent of Goodness” which supports the objectives of the Year of Giving, and brings together various projects, especially for the youth of the country.
