DEWA organises 8th Internal Health & Safety Week

HSE week

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has inaugurated DEWA’s 8th annual Internal Health & Safety Week. DEWA organises the week to promote a culture of health and safety, and highlight its latest developments. This is part of DEWA’s strategy to improve health and safety standards in all its projects, activities, and operations, and its commitment to update staff about the latest Health and Safety systems.

“Our health and safety efforts over the past years have promoted DEWA’s position locally and globally. DEWA has been achieving five-star health and safety audit ratings since 2002. Security and safety standards in DEWA have exceeded 98%, which is one of the best in the world and the rate of accidents in DEWA’s projects is virtually non-existent,” said Al Tayer.

“In 2017, DEWA was awarded the Sword of Honour for Health and Safety for the 10th time. The British Safety Council declared that we are the only organisation worldwide to win both the Globe of Honour Award for the environment and the Sword of Honour for health and safety, for six consecutive years, and to be the first international organisation to win the two prestigious awards at the same time. DEWA also won the Best Business Awards in the health and safety category, which is one of the most prestigious awards in the UK.”

“DEWA has renewed the Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series Certification (OHSAS 18001:2007), and was certified by the British Safety Council as a training centre. DEWA is the first government organisation in Dubai to give those who are trained by our internal training team a certificate in occupational health and safety from the British Safety Council.”

“These achievements confirm the effectiveness and success of the integrated management systems that DEWA adopts to promote a culture of health, safety, and the environment across all our departments and operations. I value the efforts and commitment of our staff who have been instrumental to these remarkable achievements. I urge you to sustain these results and enhance our efforts to make further achievements, to support DEWA’s vision to become a sustainable innovative world-class utility,” concluded Al Tayer.

Health and Safety Week will continue in DEWA’s branches until Thursday, 14 December 2017. It features various programmes, awareness lectures, and workshops on occupational health and safety.
