DEWA celebrates International Day of Happiness 2018

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) celebrated the International Day of Happiness 2018 through various events and activities that reflect the efforts of the founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, in instilling the concept of happiness and forgiveness among people and nations. The events took place on the 19th and 20th March at DEWA head offices and customer happiness centres across Dubai. HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD &CEO of DEWA, inaugurated the day in the presence of “Happiness Champions” from private and government entities as well as VPs, EVPs and employees of DEWA.

HE Al Tayer welcomed the happiness champions, acknowledging their great role in achieving the happiness agenda goals to boost happiness among people and create positive impact by following a scientific approach based on raising awareness and shifting mindsets, as well as knowing people’s needs and understanding them to proactively to foster an environment that suits them.

“I extend my gratitude to our wise leadership: HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE; HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, who put people’s happiness as their priority, and have dedicated all possible resources to achieve this goal through well thought-out plans, strategies, and initiatives which enabled the UAE to achieve in a record time what others could not do in decades,” said Al Tayer.

“We remember on this day, in the Year of Zayed, the journey of our founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who was always focused on his people’s happiness. He dedicated his thoughts and capabilities to serve his people and make them happy; they were at the centre of his thoughts. He believed that investing in building human beings is the foundation for building a country. Today, we learn from HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, that making people happy is a mission that cannot be postponed, and that positivity and happiness have become a lifestyle, and a government commitment, and a true spirit that unifies the UAE. This resulted in the UAE ranking first in the Arab World and 20th internationally according to the World Happiness Report 2018,” added Al Tayer.

“At DEWA we follow HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid’s words: ‘The government's policies, programmes, and services should contribute towards building a positive and happy community’ and that government’s task is to deliver happiness. Therefor, happiness is the cornerstone of all DEWA’s strategic plans. We understand the importance of instilling positivity, optimism and spirit of giving among our stakeholders, in order to create a culture of happiness in society and support progress and prosperity across Dubai and UAE. This supports the UAE Centennial 2071 which is a long-term government work roadmap, paving the way for the future UAE for the next generations; and the UAE Vision 2021 to make the UAE one of the best countries in the world, and Dubai Plan 2021 to make Dubai home for creative, empowered people who are full of pride and happiness,” Al Tayer continued.

“On this International Day of Happiness, we reiterate our commitment to supporting the efforts of our wise leadership to achieve happiness and society welfare and making Dubai the smartest and happiest city in the world through adopting an integrated approach for happiness and giving, for our stakeholders. In 2017, DEWA ranked first in Happiness Index among major entities, and the customer happiness in all its centres reached 97%. DEWA employee happiness reached 83.22% and society happiness reached 92.47% during the same year,” Al Tayer concluded.
