HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), honoured Ali Al Langawi, sports champion and DEWA employee, for winning a gold and silver medal in the jet ski competition at the Asian Games 2018 (Asiad), held in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Al Tayer commended Al Langawi’s achievements, noting that they contribute to strengthening the UAE's position in international sports competitions.

“At DEWA, we support and hone sports talents, enhancing their skills and helping them pursue their sports career to represent Dubai and the UAE in regional and international competitions. This is in line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to position the UAE at the forefront in all fields, and to raise our country’s flag in various sports forums around the world. His Highness has said that supporting the sports sector is one of the priorities of the UAE in light of its quest to be among the most distinguished countries in all fields of sports competitions Regional and international levels. We wish Al Langawi further success and more medals during upcoming competitions and matches,” said Al Tayer.

Dr Yousef Al Akraf, Executive Vice President of Business Support and Human Resources at DEWA and Chairman of DEWA’s Sports Committee, praised the unlimited support that DEWA’s top management provides for the Sports Committee, encouraging the staff to participate in various sports tournaments, exercise and engage in physical activities. DEWA provides them with days off to enable them to fully dedicate themselves to achieving the objectives of the sport tournament they are participating in. DEWA regularly organises awareness and health programmes and activities that contribute to improving the physical fitness of its employees, in addition to activities to ensure a healthy lifestyle by following best health practices.

Al Langawi expressed his happiness with this victory, especially as his two medals coincided with Eid Al-Adha. “My family, my colleagues at DEWA, my team members, and I were overjoyed with this achievement. I would like to thank His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA for his encouragement and inspiration and for supporting my sports career. I also thank him for providing a work environment that accomodates my training and participation schedule, which is a big motivation for me to achieve excellence,” said Al Langawi.

Ali Al Langawi has achieved more than 15 titles in 2016 and 2017 in different local, GCC, and international tournaments. Recently, he won the Grand Prix of Portugal in the European Championships.  Al Langawi aspires to establish a special jet ski institute to train and qualify members for various races and accomplishing new records representing the UAE, as there are several  talented Emirati in jet skiing.  After winning in the Asiad championship, Al Langawi emphasised his commitment to continue on to greater global achievements in the upcoming Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
