Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) organised a special event titled ‘A just ruler for a blessed land’, in cooperation with the Women’s Museum. This is in commemoration of the legacy and achievements of the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, and his role in developing modern Dubai, and laying the foundations of the UAE union with the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan. The event was held at the Innovation Tent at DEWA’s headquarters, and was attended by HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA; Dr. Rafia Ghubash, Founder of the Women's Museum; Abdul Ghaffar Hussein, the well-known Emirati author and writer; Dr. Aref Al Sheikh, the famous poet and author; Ali Obaid Al Hamli, News Centre Director at Dubai Media Incorporated; and a number of DEWA’s senior officials and staff.

The event featured a screening of ‘A people showered with love and dignity’ documentary; an open symposium moderated by Dr. Rafia Ghubash and included Abdul Ghaffar Hussein, Dr. Aref Al Sheikh and Ali Obaid Al Hamli, who recalled Sheikh Rashid’s achievements. The event also included ‘Blessed Dubai’, a documentary that recounted the story of Dubai’s development and the role Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum played in building and founding modern Dubai. In addition, a photo gallery at DEWA’s headquarters titled ‘A just ruler for a blessed land’, detailing Dubai’s success story, was organised as part of the event.

“I am pleased to welcome you today to this event organised by DEWA and the Women's Museum under the theme ‘A Just Ruler for a Blessed Land,’ to commemorate the humanitarianism and heritage of the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, and celebrate his legacy, achievements, and role in building a modern Dubai. We also honour his efforts in laying the foundations of the UAE’s union with the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. At the outset, we realise the important role of the Women’s Museum in commemorating our Founding Fathers and dignitaries who contributed to building this prosperous present with focused determination. As we celebrate the achievements of the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, we also strive to instil the memory of a unique national symbol in our new generation as part of our corporate social responsibility (CSR). Our country has been blessed with wise leaders who worked hard to raise the flag of our nation through many achievements, ensuring the happiness and prosperity of its people in the present and future. The late Sheikh Rashid was a visionary leader who worked hard to achieve his insightful vision to develop, and implement ambitious plans,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, while welcoming Dr. Rafia Ghubash and the attendees.

“Sheikh Rashid recognised the valuable opportunities that could be leveraged for Dubai, most notably its strategic location, which helped transform challenges facing the Emirate into successful ventures and projects. Prominent amongst these is the deepening and widening of the Dubai Creek that played a major role in improving the economy of the Emirate. Other projects included Port Rashid; Jebel Ali Port and its free zone; and others on infrastructure, roads and housing. Sheikh Rashid shared his wisdom with his children, giving rise to expcetional rulers such as the late Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who succeeded Sheikh Rashid to continue Dubai’s journey in growth and comprehensive development; and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, who inspired people with his extraordinary vision and unprecedented ambition. Seeking to become the first in all fields, His Highness has launched many great national and humanitarian initiatives and strategies to position the UAE as a leader amongst nations, and first in global competitiveness indicators,” concluded Al Tayer.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer inaugurated the gallery organised as part of the event, in the presence of DEWA’s valuable guests. The gallery witnessed the participation of a large number of employees and customers, who affirmed their pride in our wise leadership for setting a model for eminent leaders who prioritise the prosperity of their nation and their people. The UAE’s achievements are a result of the aspirations of our founding fathers and the vision of our wise leadership.
