DEWA inaugurates DEWA Happy Café and launches Happiness Charter in the Work Environment

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has organised activities across its branches to celebrate the International Day of Happiness, which takes place every 20 March. This is part of DEWA’s commitment to the happiness of its customers and employees, and society as a whole.

As part of the celebrations, HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, inaugurated DEWA Happy Café, part of the international Happy Café network adopted by the Action for Happiness. This is a global non-profit organisation founded in 2011 and that seeks to help people and communities around the world promote the concept of happiness in the family, work environment, and society. DEWA is the first government organisation in Dubai to adopt this concept, which has identified 10 keys to happier living. DEWA has a work plan to promote each of these keys on a monthly basis, including initiatives, activities, and panel discussions. DEWA’s Happy Café will be an interactive platform for staff, customers, society, and stakeholders in general. Al Tayer also launched the Happiness Charter in the Work Environment to promote the happiness of employees.

“Celebrating the International Day of Happiness is particularly important during the Year of Tolerance. Tolerance is one of the key factors that contribute to happiness and one of the foundations of the UAE. Our nation came first in the Arab World for the fourth year in a row in the World Happiness Report 2018, published by the Earth Institute at Columbia University and the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network. The late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may his soul rest in peace, once said that, "My wealth is the happiness of my people." This showed his vision to build a nation that has become an oasis of happiness, prosperity, security, safety, and tolerance. On this day, we are very proud of the wise leadership of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE; His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai; and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces; for establishing happiness and positivity as a lifestyle in the UAE. Our country attaches great importance to achieving the happiness of individuals and society, harnessing all capabilities and resources to achieve this goal, with well thought-out plans, strategies, quality initiatives, and innovative tools to measure happiness according to scientific methodologies. Our wise leadership is committed to including happiness and wellbeing in all government policies and plans. The UAE has become a global role model for the happiness of citizens, residents, and visitors,” said Al Tayer.

“While we restate our commitment to DEWA’s Customer Happiness Charter, launched in 2015, I am pleased to announce the launch of the Happiness Charter in the Work Environment to promote the happiness of employees. We are inspired in this by the vision of our wise leadership that the government’s job is to achieve happiness for people. As His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum once said, “It is necessary to ensure employees’ happiness in order that they in turn can bring happiness to others.” DEWA is committed to promoting the values of positivity and happiness in society. All our initiatives and projects aim to ensure customers’ happiness by saving them time and effort, and providing our services according to the highest standards of quality, reliability, and efficiency. This is done within an integrated framework that ensures continuous improvement by institutionalising the measurement and follow-up mechanisms. DEWA has become a reference for best practices in customer and society happiness. In recognition of these efforts, DEWA came first in the Happiness Index in the large Dubai Government entities category, for the second consecutive year with a 95% happiness score, according to Smart Dubai’s Happiness Index. We pledge to continue innovating unique experiences and adopt positive ideas that will enhance the happiness of all stakeholders, to contribute to achieving the vision of our wise leadership for Dubai to become the happiest city in the world,” added Al Tayer.

During DEWA Happiness Day, employees signed the Happiness Charter in the Work Environment. Activities included distributing gifts to customers and staff including T-Shirts with happiness-related phrases and logos printed on them, as well as happiness flowers. An artist was also available to paint caricatures of people’s faces. DEWA’s divisions also highlighted the initiatives they launch around the year for the happiness of their staff.
