DEWA’s Youth Council organises visit to Al Fahidi historical neighbourhood on the 48th UAE National Day

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) Youth Council has organised a trip to Al Fahidi historical neighbourhood, supervised by the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding, to learn more about the civilisation of the UAE, its ancient heritage, and the town’s historical landmarks.

DEWA’s employees toured the Al Fahidi historical neighbourhood and visited the Coffee Museum, the Weapons Museum, Al Freej, the Old Dubai Wall, and the Camel District. They were also given a detailed demonstration of the conventional building houses from coral stone, plaster, woods, teakwood, fronds and the trunks of palm trees. The fourth Youth Talks also took place with the theme ‘Open Doors... Open Minds,’ to discuss the history of the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding.

“We want to develop good citizenship and raise the national identity of young people and the next generations. They are the future of this nation and its driving force for development. The nation’s capital is its young men and dedicated youth who can lead it to new prospects and limitless achievements. We are inspired by the words of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, who once observed that, “Youth are the powerhouse of any nation and its hope for building a better tomorrow, as nations are built and the future shaped by youth, capitalising on their abilities and skills. They are the driving force behind any nation’s progress and advancement. We invest in youth to achieve the progress that we aspire to and steadily pave the way for a prosperous future for current and coming generations.” As the UAE celebrates the 48th National Day, we organise events and national initiatives that symbolise co-existence, tolerance, and openness at their best. We are inspired by the Spirit of the Union that motivates and energises us to honest hard work and boundless generosity, and show young people how to maintain the nation’s progress and build on previous achievements,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.

“We appreciate the efforts of DEWA’s Youth Council to involve DEWA’s young people in the development process, listen to their opinions, discuss their topics of interest, and explore opportunities for their own convenience and happiness. DEWA continues to invest in youth to enhance their skills and knowledge to participate in achieving the UAE Vision 2021 and the Dubai Plan 2021, to make Dubai a city of happy, creative and empowered people, and DEWA’s vision to become a globally leading sustainable innovative corporation,” added Al Tayer.

“DEWA’s top management empowers youth to become the pillars of the development process. It also provides an effective platform to learn about their views on various issues, communicate their ideas and suggestions and employ them to serve the UAE and its people. We are glad to work with the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding, to help youth better understand Emirati society, and its culture and traditions; and encourage them to get a closer look on the culture and history of the UAE,” said Aysha Mohammad Alremeithi, DEWA’s Youth Council’s President.

The Youth Talks programme is one of the outcomes of the youth retreat organised by DEWA’s Youth Council following its launch. The programme comprises numerous awareness lectures and motivational workshops, adapted to the interests of the youth and DEWA’s directions. The Council's strategy is based on five main themes: National Identity and Values, Continuing Education, Professional Development, Future Accelerators and Innovation; and Sustainability. It enhances communication between young employees and the Dubai Youth Council, the executive arm of the Emirates Youth Council.
