In the presence of HE Juma Al Majid, Founder of the National Charity School, HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), and Dr. Aref Al Sheikh, Head of the Board of Trustees of National Charity School-Elementary in Dubai, DEWA launched an innovative project to refurbish the classrooms at National Charity School-Elementary in Dubai and meet the needs of the school, teachers and students. DEWA also checked the health and safety procedures at the school.
Some 37 volunteers from DEWA participated in the project with a total of 296 working hours, to refurbish the classrooms of the school. The school has 1,700 students including many People of Determination and those from families with limited incomes. The volunteers also refurbished the staffroom as well as the arts, music, and computer rooms. They also added an aesthetic touch to the school’s open areas. The volunteers further checked the health and safety procedures at the school to ensure its alignment with the highest international standards.
“More than three decades ago, we planted seeds of giving when we founded the National Charity School-Elementary in Dubai. We aim to educate Arab and Muslim children and teach them values. For those who want to give, giving for education is the most precious. Today, HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer is one of those generous people who has devoted DEWA’s capabilities to refurbish the school, and to sponsor innovation. The visit of His Excellency on the opening day of the innovation project is the culmination of these efforts. I would like to thank my brother HE Al Tayer and the team for their efforts,” said HE Juma Al Majid.
“As part of its social responsibility, DEWA strives to support the pioneering social initiatives especially those that empower People of Determination and that make them happy. DEWA helps to provide them with an environment that allows them to unleash their potential and prove their capabilities. This is to achieve the vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to transform Dubai and the UAE into a hub for humanitarian work and to promote community service. It is also a part of DEWA’s role as a socially-responsible government organization. DEWA supports the Dubai Plan 2021, which aims to make Dubai an inclusive and cohesive society that embraces common civic values whose cohesive families and communities form the bedrock of society. It also supports the ‘My Community... a City for Everyone’ initiative, launched by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai, to transform Dubai into a city that is friendly for people of determination, by 2020,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer.
“DEWA is committed to its social responsibility and partners with several public and private organisations to enhance social responsibility and promote volunteering among its employees and society members. We are glad to receive the innovative ideas from our employees on recycling and their keenness to provide an educational environment that inspires innovation, and instil solidarity among the next generation. This is through their voluntary work and promoting it among society. We are proud of their dedication to empower, prepare, and integrate People of Determination in society. The total volunteering hours in social initiatives concerned with People of Determination at DEWA has reached 18,898 hours, benefiting 31,521 people. The number of social initiatives implemented by DEWA has reached 300 since 2013 and until the end of 2019. DEWA’s efforts in social responsibility over the past year have increased society happiness from 82% in 2013 to 93.05% in 2018. Efforts are ongoing to achieve higher rates in the future,” added Al Tayer.
“On behalf of the Board of Trustees and the National Charity School-Elementary in Dubai, I would like to thank DEWA and HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer for their efforts. This initiative has added a new life and look to the school and this is far more than what His Excellency promised to provide,” said Dr. Aref Al Sheikh.
