Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has organised an online workshop to introduce the Conservation Award standards. DEWA is organising the next Conservation Award for 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 with the theme ‘Together for a Sustainable Future’ in collaboration with the UAE Ministry of Education and the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA). The award educates students about the rational use of resources, in addition to recognising educational institutions for their efforts to reduce waste.
DEWA presented the workshop in English and Arabic. Around 160 academic and administrative staff and award coordinators from public and private education institutions and Centres for People of Determination in Dubai took part in the workshop. Participants included school principals and academic staff from all ages; ranging from kindergarten to universities and colleges. The two-day workshop provided a detailed demonstration of registering for the award, its conditions, and technical and awareness standards. The workshop also introduced monetary prizes for each category, including the Interactive Conservation Programme. DEWA launched this programme recently, which aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, to provide a wide range of innovative lectures and interactive workshops for students of all ages.
“The Conservation Award plays an important role in expanding the number of individuals and organisations that adopt a positive behaviour and responsible lifestyle, based on their conservation of natural resources. The interactive participation of students, teachers and administrative and academic staff in the award is an ideal model of joint efforts between public and private organisations in Dubai to achieve the wise leadership’s vision. As a socially responsible government organisation, DEWA provides all resources to promote sustainability and conservation. It works to educate society about their responsibility to conserve electricity and water and follow a sustainable lifestyle. This supports our efforts to protect the environment and reduce the carbon footprint,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.
DEWA has extended the deadline of the next Conservation Award due to COVID-19. To support the registration process, DEWA has enabled registrations on its mobile app for the first time. The deadline has been extended to May 2021 to include two academic years. This helps educational facilities and students to achieve the award objectives. The Conservation Award includes four categories: Distinguished Educational Institution in Conservation, Distinguished Conservation Leader, Distinguished Conservation Team, and Distinguished Conservation Project, who can win prizes amounting to AED 180,000.
