Health Authority; Knowledge and Human Development Authority; Dubai Statistics Center; Dubai Tourism; Dubai Media Incorporated; Dubai Courts; Dubai Airport; and Dubai Club for People of Determination. The workshop aimed at sharing DEWA’s best practices in the field of international practices in universal design for people of determination with government partners and exchanging knowledge on including and empowering people of determination (POD) at work and in society.

This is part of DEWA’s initiatives to include and empower people of determination at work and in society and make them happier. In line with the National Policy for Empowering People of Determination, launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to create an inclusive society that ensures empowerment and a decent life for people of determination and their families; and the ‘My community... a city for everyone’ initiative, launched by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai, to transform Dubai into a friendly city for people of determination; DEWA is committed to including and empowering them according to the best local and international practices. We are also committed to providing the necessary support to them to achieve the government’s efforts to create a cohesive and inclusive society as well as the best place to live and work,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.
“We are pleased to share DEWA’s experiences and best practices in this area with our government partners, and increase our collaboration and coordination to empower people of determination to achieve the government’s vision for them. In this regard, I thank you for your participation in this workshop, which we hope will be beneficial for everybody,” concluded Al Tayer.
The workshop included two introductory sessions on ‘Easy access to buildings and facilities according to ‘Dubai Universal Design Code and the best practices,’ and ‘Standards of easy access to information and smart services at centres – applied practices in this area.’ DEWA gave a series of presentations highlighting its pioneering role in achieving the government vision for including and empowering POD, the best international practices applied by DEWA in the accessible environment, including buildings, facilities, smart services, DEWA website and smart app.
Dubai Club for People of Determination gave a presentation on the Universal Design and its impact on the quality of life for POD, while the Community Development Authority focused on the Universal Design and its impact on creating an inclusive society and a happy place to work and live. Dubai Municipality and RTA presented the best international practices applied by both in the Universal Design. The workshop concluded with a brainstorming session where all entities highlighted the best applied practices and the importance of merging efforts between government partners to create a cohesive society.
