Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) organises 20 specialised panel discussions on the second day of the 23rd Water, Energy, Technology, and Environment Exhibition (WETEX) and Dubai Solar Show (DSS). The sessions focus on sustainable infrastructure and smart cities. DEWA is organising this exhibition under the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai; and the patronage of HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy (DSCE) from 5 to 7 October 2021 at Dubai Exhibition Centre at Expo 2020 Dubai.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, Founder and Chairman of WETEX and DSS, said that the busy schedule of the specialised seminars and workshops allows visitors to exchange opinions with experts in the green economy, smart cities, innovation and sustainable development, so they can benefit from successful global experiences in the energy and water sector.

During the sessions on the second day, the ‘Pushing the Boundaries on Sustainability with Innovations in Digitalisation & AI’ session discusses how innovation and digitalisation are being adopted, the role of digitalisation to achieve ambitious sustainability targets. It also highlights a case study of how innovation along with digitalisation has made a positive impact. The ‘Sustainability Projects for Power, Desalination & Water Transmission Plants’ session sheds light on the importance of pumping systems on total plant efficiency and therefore on energy saving and carbon emission reduction, and global energy market and demand trends. The ‘Latest Solutions in Renewable Marine Energy Solutions’ highlights the latest developments in various types of Marine Energy Solutions such as Floating Solar, Offshore Wind, Wave Energy and their exceptional advantages.

DEWA will also organise these sessions: ‘Decarbonisation in the Future Energy Sector: Hydrogen Capabilities Retrofit’; ‘Disrupting / Emerging / Innovative Technologies in Energy, Water and Environment’; ‘Sustainable initiatives for a Smart City’; ‘Sharjah Waste to Energy Plant, A Success Story’; ‘ENOC eLink’; a panel discussion under the theme ‘Post Covid19 Innovation Outlook’; ‘Dynamic Reactive Power Compensation (DRPC)’; ‘Applicable Technologies for Centralised Industrial Effluent Treatment’; ‘Promoting Best Practice in terms of Process, Tools & Equipment in Overhead Live Line Works’; ‘Innovative and Reliable Solar Technology’; ‘Hydrogen as a fuel & its adoption into our daily lives’.

‘The role of smart cities in achieving deep decarbonisation’ session sheds light on the role of advanced telecommunication technologies, AI and digitalisation in making cities more sustainable whilst providing better services for citizens. The ‘Building Retrofitting: how to gain energy efficiency’ focuses on achieving energy efficiency through retrofitting to reduce energy and water use, besides long-term costs. The ‘Sustainable transport through more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly practices’ session provides other sustainable and decarbonised mobility options.

The ‘Digitalisation applied to decarbonisation: Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning’ session discusses the potential of Big Data and AI on the road to achieving net-zero carbon. The ‘Advanced Cooling Systems: saving on energy and increasing sustainability’ session discusses efficient cooling systems to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The ‘science and technology of rain enhancement’ session sheds light on cloud seeding to ease water shortages in the MENA region.
