DEWA concludes WETEX & DSS 2021 at Expo 2020 Dubai

The 23rd Water, Energy, Technology, and Environment Exhibition (WETEX) and Dubai Solar Show (DSS) concluded today. WETEX & DSS is organised by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) under the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and the patronage of HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, with the theme ‘At the forefront of sustainability.’ WETEX & DSS was held from 5 to 7 October 2021 with the participation of over 1,200 companies from 55 countries, 61 sponsors, and 10 country pavilions. The exhibition attracted 45,506 visitors from around the world.

Over the three days of WETEX & DSS, the largest exhibition of its kind in the region and one of the largest specialised exhibitions in the world, visitors learned about the latest technologies, solutions, and innovations in energy, water, sustainability, green technologies, renewable and clean energy, conservation, green buildings, electric vehicles and other vital sectors shown by major companies from the region and around the world.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, Founder and Chairman of WETEX & DSS, expressed his happiness with the exhibition’s success and the large turnout of companies.

“DEWA organised WETEX & DSS onsite this year at the Dubai Exhibition Centre, Expo 2020 Dubai. This is in accordance with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy. We are also pleased that WETEX & DSS was the first exhibition to be organised in the Dubai Exhibition Centre at Expo 2020 Dubai. This provided an exceptional opportunity for sponsors, exhibitors, and visitors to be part of the first world Expo in the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia, and one of the first big events since the start of the pandemic. The UAE, under the wise leadership’s vision, is one of the first countries to start recovering from COVID-19,” said Al Tayer.

“WETEX & DSS provides an ideal platform for signing deals, creating partnerships between local and international companies. It also enables decision makers and investors from around the world to meet, sign deals and build partnerships, learn about market needs, future projects, and opportunities to join renewable or clean energy projects in the UAE. This is especially important because of the ‘Projects of the 50,’ where the UAE aims to increase public-private partnerships and provide promising investment opportunities in the country. DEWA’s investments in the energy and water sectors will be AED 86 billion over the next five years,” added Al Tayer.

“This exceptional WETEX & DSS coincided with Expo 2020 Dubai and provided an important opportunity for companies, investors, and visitors from around the world to explore investment opportunities, build trade relations, enhance business competitiveness, and meet with key companies and decision makers from different countries in one place,” said Dr Yousef Al Akraf, Executive Vice President of Business Support and Human Resources at DEWA, and Chairperson of the Sales, Logistics and Sponsorship Committee at WETEX & DSS.

DEWA organised 56 seminars and panel discussions at the exhibition, with the participation of experts and specialists from around the world on sustainability; renewable and clean energy; green hydrogen; water desalination using clean energy; carbon capture; circular economy; renewable energy production and storage; turning waste into energy; Artificial Intelligence (AI); emerging technologies in utilities; smart meters and networks; post-COVID-19 innovation, and other topics that support sustainable development and reduce carbon emissions.
