“World Energy Day announced by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, once again reflects the wise leadership’s forward-looking vision that has made the UAE a pioneering model in adopting clean and renewable energy. World Energy Day was announced at the Dubai Declaration on the 22nd of October 2012. It also made the UAE a role model in the rapid transition towards sustainable and effective solutions that balance between economic growth and environmental sustainability. This day is an occasion to strengthen collaboration between different public and private entities locally and globally to promote sustainable development, increase energy efficiency, and enhance public awareness on adopting conservation,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the DSCE, MD & CEO of DEWA.

“DEWA supports the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 launched by His Highness to provide 75% of Dubai’s total power capacity from clean energy sources by 2050. DEWA’s installed capacity of clean energy has reached 1,310 megawatts (MW), raising the total production capacity of clean energy in Dubai’s energy mix to 10%. The capacity of solar power projects underway at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the largest single-site solar park in the world, has reached 1,310 MW with a planned capacity of 5,000 MW in 2030. The solar power generation cost in Dubai is the lowest in the world. This supports the Emirate’s efforts to become a global capital for green economy and sustainable development. We also have the green hydrogen production project using solar energy, the Hatta hydroelectric power plant, as well as the wind energy project. We strive to spread awareness of the importance of conservation. The conservation programmes and initiatives launched by DEWA have achieved cumulative savings of 2.6 terrawatthours (TWh) of electricity and 8.5 billion gallons of water between 2009 and 2020. This is equivalent to saving AED 1.5 billion and reducing 1.136 million tonnes of carbon emissions,” added Al Tayer.
