Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is participating in the 8th World Government Summit at Expo 2020 Dubai, as the Sustainable Energy Partner. DEWA highlights its key initiatives in smart transformation and its efforts to limit carbon emissions in the energy sector by increasing the share of clean and renewable energy capacity, which currently constitute 11.38% of Dubai’s energy mix and is expected to reach 13.8% by the end of this year. This supports the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050 to provide 100% of the total power capacity from clean energy sources by 2050.
HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, will give a speech on the second day of the World Government Summit to highlight Dubai’s success story in supporting the transformation of the UAE, which has become a role model in the transition to clean and renewable energy.
DEWA is showcasing its key project - the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the largest single-site solar park in the world, using the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model. It has a planned capacity of 5,000 MW by 2030 and investments up to AED 50 billion. The solar park will reduce more than 6.5 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually after its completion. DEWA also showcases Digital DEWA, its digital arm, to support its efforts to become the first digital utility in the world using autonomous systems for renewable energy and storage with the expansion of AI and digital services.
DEWA also highlights its Space-D programme. In January 2022, DEWA launched DEWA-SAT1, a 3U nanosatellite, becoming the world’s first utility to use nanosatellites to exchange information with the help of satellite communications and earth observation technologies to improve its operations, maintenance and planning of electricity and water networks.
DEWA is also showcasing its customer happiness journey, which helped it achieve first place worldwide in the International Customer Experience Standard (ICXS) for the third consecutive year. This is a result of meeting all the requirements of the updated ICXS2019. DEWA scored 100% in the evaluation, the highest score worldwide in the updated version.
