Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA)’s Innovation Centre concluded the third batch of the CleanTech Youth Programme. The programme aims to attract talented young energy leaders from different sectors and expand their skills and knowledge in clean and renewable energy and entrepreneurship and enhance their contribution to accelerating climate work. 25 young energy leaders graduated from the third batch of the programme from various universities across the UAE. The graduates’ innovative projects were showcased during the first Middle East and North Africa Solar Conference (MENA SC). DEWA organised the four-day conference at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

“DEWA is committed to empowering the youth, honing their skills, and encouraging them to work in clean and renewable energy. We seek to enable them to be active partners that drive positive change and accelerate the energy transition and support net zero. DEWA’s Innovation Centre strives to develop the skills of the next generation of innovators and experts in clean technologies while focusing on and nurturing skilled Emiratis. This supports the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050. The Centre has become a global platform for renewable and clean energy innovations and a key partner in shaping the future of sustainable energy worldwide,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, during the graduation ceremony.

“The CleanTech Youth Programme is one of the programmes, training courses, and activities organised by the Innovation Centre to encourage the youth to utilise innovation and disruptive technologies to find solutions to current and future challenges and contribute to building a more sustainable future,” said Waleed Bin Salman, Executive Vice President of Business Development and Excellence at DEWA.

The CleanTech Youth Programme had a wide range of workshops, specialist sessions, and field visits to accredited institutions with the participation of academics and experts from several universities, start-ups, and local and global organisations. The programme attracts university graduates and students studying engineering or science at accredited institutions in the UAE, who are between 20 and 24 years old. The programme graduated 75 participants throughout its three batches.
