“In line with the wise directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, DEWA promotes the UAE’s global competitiveness by investing in youth, developing their leadership capabilities, and providing them with the skills needed to become the next generation of sustainability leaders. With the extension of the Year of Sustainability in the UAE, and in light of the historic UAE Consensus ratified during the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28), which the UAE hosted at Expo City Dubai in November - December 2023 and has set the world on the right climate action path, we are committed to amplifying the voices of youth and their innovative solutions. We are also committed to engaging the youth in comprehensive sustainable development efforts, accelerating the energy transition, and achieving the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050. In line with the National Youth Agenda 2031, we support the economic empowerment of talented young Emiratis, develop their scientific skills, consolidate their national identity, enhance their community contributions, and support their role in representing their country internationally. We also provide all the capabilities that enable them to keep pace with technological developments and possess skills of the future, to continue presenting the Emirati noble model that enables the youth to lead climate action,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA).
“DEWA has 2,831 young employees aged between 18 and 35 years. There are 2,062 young male and female Emirati employees at DEWA. We are committed to refining the skills of the youth and encouraging them to work in clean and renewable energy and advanced and promising sectors. We have several innovative programmes in collaboration with local and international organisations and notable universities and research centres worldwide, such as Al Baheth programme; Cleantech Youth programme; Tatweer Collaboration Programme; “Sustainability Youth Ambassadors” which we launched in collaboration with the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL); “Cleantech Hackathon”, and Cleantech Connect Programme, in addition to professional certificate programmes, training courses, youth circles, programmes that promote health and quality of life, and events organised by DEWA’s Youth Council. DEWA Campus for Occupational and Academic Development and DEWA Academy support our efforts to prepare Emirati youth in the technical, engineering, and occupational sectors as well as various technical specialisations,” added Al Tayer.
