Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) concluded its 16th Future Engineer summer camp, held from 4 August to 15 August, with 30 pupils aged 10 to 12 taking part – all children of DEWA employees. Since its inception a decade ago, the camp has welcomed 494 participants, many of whom have pursued careers in engineering, reflecting the programme’s lasting influence. This achievement reflects DEWA’s commitment to preparing young minds for a future shaped by modern sciences and technology, and ensuring they are well-equipped to contribute to Dubai’s sustainable development.

This year’s agenda included a lecture on child safety and societal responsibility, organised in collaboration with the Community Development Authority, and a first-aid workshop by Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services that equipped children with basic life skills. A visit to AYA Universe at Wafi City in Dubai added a creative and interactive dimension to the experience.

Parents praised the programme’s blend of educational content and practical experiences, which featured sessions on digital engineering, artificial intelligence (AI), robotics and 3D printing. The summer camp also focused on digital awareness, information security and personal development, with activities designed to strengthen national identity and reinforce DEWA’s environmental and sustainability values. Pupils were encouraged to transform their ideas into real-world innovations, thereby enhancing their confidence and problem-solving skills.

DEWA employee Yahya Al-Mulla, father of participant Ali, expressed his happiness with the programme, which he said had enriched his son’s knowledge and boosted his enthusiasm for science.

“The programme had a positive impact on his personality as he became more enthusiastic and engaged with scientific materials. He was very happy to join the children of other DEWA employees during this event. I extend my sincere thanks and appreciation to the trainers and those in charge of this programme for their efforts in making it a success and ensuring it benefits our children,” said Al-Mulla.

Another employee, Shaikha Almheiri, said her son, Ahmad Mohammed Abdulla, gained valuable insights into future technologies such as AI, robotics and 3D printing, in addition to developing critical thinking and teamwork skills, and a strong sense of personal responsibility.

“This programme had a positive impact on Ahmed's personality and increased his awareness about the important role sustainability and innovation play in serving society and the country. As parents, we appreciate this pioneering initiative by DEWA, which fosters a sense of belonging and supports the building of an aware and innovative generation capable of contributing to the UAE's sustainable development process. In conclusion, I extend my sincere thanks and appreciation to everyone who cared for my son, taught him and was keen to give him this special experience,” said Almheiri.

The Future Engineer summer camp is a pioneering educational initiative dedicated to equipping the next generation with the skills needed to thrive amid global advancements in innovation and technology. The programme has maintained exceptional satisfaction levels, achieving 100% approval from both pupils and parents – a reflection of its success in achieving its educational, developmental and social goals.
