HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), met Hon Evan Solomon, Canada’s Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovation, and HE Tracy Reynolds, Consul General of Canada in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, during the 45th edition of GITEX Global 2025, taking place from 13 to 17 October at the Dubai World Trade Centre.
The meeting highlighted the robust relations between DEWA and Canadian companies, as well as opportunities for collaboration in the fields of artificial intelligence (AI), clean energy and digital transformation. Discussions also focused on the exchange of best practices and the exploration of joint initiatives to advance sustainable and smart technologies that drive the global energy transition.
During the meeting, Al Tayer showcased DEWA’s advanced digital and physical infrastructure, which has positioned Dubai as a global leader in smart utility services. He emphasised that DEWA’s electricity and water networks and services are the world’s most reliable, efficient and resilient in 12 key performance indicators (KPIs) that demonstrate the utility’s ability to deliver uninterrupted supply and world-class service.
Al Tayer also highlighted DEWA’s pioneering role in AI integration within the energy sector. He explained that DEWA has developed a comprehensive AI road map and announced its strategic transformation to become the world’s first AI-native government organisation – with AI embedded across its structure, culture and strategy from the outset.
Al Tayer explained that DEWA’s AI transformation goes beyond the adoption of advanced tools – it represents a fundamental shift in how the organisation operates and serves its customers. He revealed that AI is fully integrated across DEWA’s value chain – from energy and water production, transmission and distribution, to enhancing customer experience and operational excellence.
Al Tayer added that DEWA’s AI-driven approach supports Dubai’s vision to become a global hub for innovation and sustainability, contributing to the goals of the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 Strategy, Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050.
Solomon commended DEWA’s lead in digital transformation and sustainability, underscoring the potential for deeper partnerships between Canadian technology companies and DEWA in areas such as AI applications, data analytics and renewable energy systems.
