HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), said: “World Energy Day represents a key platform for raising global awareness of the importance of transitioning to clean and renewable energy and focusing on innovation and modern technologies to achieve sustainability and enhance energy security. At Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), we work in line with the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to enhance sustainability and diversify energy sources. One of the key projects is the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the world’s largest single-site solar park based on the independent power producer model, with a production capacity of 3,860 megawatts (MW). Clean energy constitutes about 21.5% of DEWA’s total energy production capacity. By 2030, the solar park’s total capacity will reach over 8,000MW, compared to the original plan of 5,000MW, reducing 8.5 million tonnes of carbon emissions annually, up from the planned 6.5 million. The 250MW pumped-storage hydroelectric power plant in Hatta, with a storage capacity of 1,500 megawatt hours, is the first of its kind in the Arabian Gulf region and reinforces our leading position in adopting the latest global technologies in energy storage.”

Al Tayer added: “On World Energy Day 2025, we renew our commitment to driving innovation and continuing our efforts to strength Dubai’s position as a leading global hub for clean and renewable energy. This aligns with national strategies and plans, including the UAE Net Zero 2050 Strategy, the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, to provide 100% of the emirate’s energy production capacity from clean sources by 2050.”
