DEWA’s clean and renewable energy projects enhance UAE’s efforts in climate action

Thanks to the futuristic vision of the UAE’s wise leadership, the UAE has become one of the biggest countries investing in renewable energy and has made significant achievements in reducing emissions from the energy sector. The Statistical Review of World Energy issued last year by the UK-based Energy Institute revealed that the UAE is one of the top countries using solar energy in the world. According to the report, the UAE is the 6th highest per capita consumer of solar energy globally.

DEWA’s R&D Centre publishes 221 scientific and research papers in international forums by the end of 2023

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA)’s Research and Development (R&D) Centre published 73 Scopus-indexed scientific and research papers in 2023 in several international scientific conferences, peer-reviewed journals, and periodicals. This brings the total of scientific and research papers published by the centre to 221 until the end of last year. These publications contribute to DEWA’s efforts to enrich the local and international scientific community with specialised scientific research. The papers covered various topics, including solar energy, water, energy efficiency, smart grid integration, space, and the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

Million additional beneficiaries from water projects and networks in Tanzania, increasing Suqia UAE’s project beneficiaries from 13.9 million to 14.9 million people worldwide

With a grant from HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, one million people in the Republic of Tanzania are benefitting from the UAE Water Aid Foundation (Suqia UAE)’s initiative to implement sustainable water projects. This increases beneficiaries of Suqia UAE’s projects, since its establishment in 2015, from 13.9 million to 14.9 million people worldwide. In cooperation with the Emirates Red Crescent, Suqia UAE is digging new artesian wells and maintaining current wells to provide clean and safe drinking water to the residents of different regions and villages across Tanzania. A joint delegation from Suqia and the Emirates Red Crescent visited Tanzania to make final arrangements to begin implementing water projects in coordination with the relevant Tanzanian authorities.

DEWA wins the Smart Water Project of the Year Award 2024 at the Global Water Awards

In a new global achievement that adds to its record of success, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has won the Smart Water Project of the Year Award 2024 at the prestigious Global Water Awards. DEWA received this award for its fully automated Hydro Insight system, a world first for a water utility. DEWA developed the system internally using the latest AI and data science technologies developed in-house for smart grid automation and management. The system allows DEWA to monitor over 1 million smart meters, and improve visibility on a range of areas, including water meter anomalies. This smart system has dramatically decreased meter anomaly detection time, from 30 days to a mere 1 hour, resulting in the conservation of 214 million gallons of water.

DEWA’s Smart Response allows customer to self-diagnose and report interruptions

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has highlighted that its Smart Response service, accessible on its website and smart app, enables customers to self-diagnose electricity and water interruptions. It also streamlines the reporting process, reducing the time needed if a technical team visit is required. In the event of a power outage in a home or building, DEWA advises customers to identify the affected areas and check the internal distribution board. If a circuit breaker is disconnected, a qualified technician may be asked to assist. If all breakers are on, customers can follow the steps provided in the Smart Response service on DEWA’s smart app.
