Once again, 13 cash awards worth AED 22,000 are on offer to DEWA's residential customers who achieve the highest savings in electricity and water consumption during a specific time period. The awards are part of DEWA's efforts to encourage its customers to reduce electricity and water consumption. According to DEWA figures, residents constitute 80% of its water, and 70% of its electricity, consumer base. Saeed Mohammad Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO, DEWA said: The rapidly rising population is driving higher demand for water and electricity. There is an urgent need to encourage everyone to rationalise consumption and reduce their water and electricity usage. The highest consumption of electricity and water takes place in summer time. We are confident the Best Consumer Awards will increase awareness of the need to help protect the environment by rationalising consumption of vital resources. To participate in the awards, contestants must fill in a special form, with their name, address, and DEWA subscription number. With this information DEWA's conservation team will track the household consumption and compare it to last year's consumption, to determine the winners. Forms are available from all DEWA's offices, or on line at www.dewa.gov.ae Eng Amala Koshak, Senior Manager Demand and Tariff Management, DEWA said: Every single person participating in these awards will be a winner. Even those who do not win an award will benefit from substantial savings in their bills. We are confident the awards will aid in the conservation program which DEWA intends to make part of the daily life of Dubai's population. Form what we have seen in previous years, we will see large participation from our customers. This is the fifth year the BEST Consumer Awards have been run by DEWA. The awards are part of a wider energy conservation programme that includes schools, hotels, Dubai government departments, and the commercial and industrial sectors.
