DEWA receives delegation from Dubai Municipality

In line with its commitment to further strengthen collaboration across governmental departments, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) received a delegation from Dubai Municipality at DEWA’s sustainable building in Al Qouz. The visit aimed at reinforcing joint work between both parties in accordance with the vision and strategy of the Dubai Government. Eng. Waleed Salman, EVP of Strategy and Business Development, and Eng. Abdullah Obaidallah, EVP of Water and Civil, accompanied by VPs and senior officials of DEWA, received the delegation that included Eng. Salah Amiri, Assistant Director General, Eng. Abdullah Rabee, Assistant Director General, and a number of departmental heads and officials of the municipality. DEWA officials provided an onsite tour to demonstrate the specifications and features of DEWA’s sustainable building, which is the first sustainable building in the UAE, and the largest government building in the world with a Platinum rating for green buildings from Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), the US Green Building Council institute, which has a set of rating criteria for the design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings, in the world. The DEWA building achieved 98 out of 110 points. The delegation was also presented an overview of DEWA’s current and future projects aimed at meeting the growing demand for energy, considering the large number of new businesses in the Emirate of Dubai, which has become a global hub for business, finance, and tourism. Both parties stressed the importance of strengthening joint work, particularly, in the field of setting standards and criteria for green buildings. The delegation members expressed their admiration of DEWA’s achievements in the areas of efficiency, reliability, and sustainability, and praised its initiatives in promoting conservation and the use of renewable energy, and protecting the environment.
