- A DEWA initiative, supported by DSCE and Dubai Green Economy Partnership - To be held in conjunction with WETEX 2014 - Aims to develop global partnerships and promote green trade and investment HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy (DSCE) and MD and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) announced, in a press conference held in Dubai today, hosting a global summit on the green economy to be held in Dubai on 15 and 16 of April 2014. This high-profile event titled “World Green Economy Summit” is in line with the “Green Economy For Sustainable development” initiative, announced last year by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, national strategy that aims to make the UAE one of the leading countries in the world in the field of green economy, and a global centre for exporting and re-exporting green technologies and products. The “World Green Economy Summit” will be held in conjunction with the next edition of the leading water, energy and environment technologies exhibition “WETEX 2014”. “Being the first green economy summit in the Middle East and North Africa region, promises to bring together government, business and finance leaders to forge global partnerships and provide paths to a sustainable future for humanity” said Al Tayer. “The UAE is the first country in the MENA region to commit to a green economy strategy and Dubai is leading the region in green infrastructure investment from renewable energy and green building to public transport and green technologies.” He added. The “World Green Economy Summit” is supported by Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, the organization the leads Dubai’s transition to a green and low-carbon economy across all strategic economic sectors and developers of the 1000 MW Mohamed Bin Rashid Solar Park project due to open its first phase later this month. The summit will be organized in association with “Dubai Green Economy Partnership” a global initiative of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, launched last year and attracted leading public and private local and international partners promoting green trade and investment in a region of over 2 billion consumers. The “World Green Economy Summit” will be held under the theme “Global Partnerships, Sustainable Future” and looks to complement the sustainable future vision of the UAE and the global efforts to combat climate change. “We are committed to establish a prominent position for the “World Green Economy Summit” on the international business agenda” said Jens Nielsen, chief executive officer of World Climate Limited, summit consultants and producers. “We are fortunate to have had the opportunity to closely examine Dubai and the United Arab Emirates, sustainable development vision, strategies and achievements which has earned a remarkable global standing. World Climate Limited is chaired by Andre Schneider, the former COO and MD of the World Economic Forum for 12 years. He will lead the summit agenda dialogue in collaboration with global stakeholders.
