DEWA promotes psychological stability and social welfare of its staff

Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA) has launched its Employee Satisfaction Survey 2014, in line with Dubai Government’s vision to boost governmental work to the highest levels of efficiency and DEWA’s own vision to become a sustainable world-class utility. The survey explores opinions of DEWA’s staff and measures their satisfaction levels about the different aspects of work including their general impression about DEWA and their feedback on work-related mechanisms, systems and applications. In line with its commitment to its employees and its endeavour to provide an ideal work environment for them, DEWA has established exemplary nurseries for the children of its staff. These nurseries follow the highest international standards in health and education. “DEWA is fully committed to providing an innovative and stimulating work environment by taking care of its employees and supporting them to make pioneering achievements and reach highest levels of performance, resulting in the accomplishment of DEWA’s mission following the best international standards. Therefore, DEWA constantly seeks to improve its work conditions by establishing the right foundations for developing its employees’ skills, nurturing their talents and offering them the best possible care while working at DEWA,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA. “We are keen on enhancing the satisfaction levels of our staff and consolidating the spirit of cooperation and communication among our employees, which are the backbone of DEWA. We adopt several approaches for taking opinions and suggestions such as TAWASOL suggestions programme, which identifies employee needs and aspirations and puts their suggestions into effect,” added Al Tayer. Al Tayer pointed out that opinion polls are one of the tools that help DEWA take the right decisions and directions, and one of the most important channels of communication with all stakeholders, particularly employees. Over the years, DEWA implemented several developmental initiatives in different areas based on the outcome of these polls in collaboration with the Human Resources Department and DEWA’s management in the different departments. This directly resulted in promoting loyalty and belonging among employees, boosting productivity and reducing job turnover. “DEWA spares no effort in assisting the families of working mothers and female employees to achieve their psychological stability and social welfare. We encourage them to engage in different job positions at DEWA, thus enhancing their performance and productivity. We aim to empower women by achieving work-life balance, which is a social and educational necessity. Today, providing nurseries is a top priority for working female employees, and is an important factor in improving women’s labour market and ensuring that the rights of women and children are met by providing child centres or nurseries at all work places,’’ concluded Al Tayer. DEWA established the first nursery for the children of its employees in February 2010 with a capacity of 32 children. Another nursery opened with a capacity of 48 children in the Sustainable Building at Al Quoz in April 2013, and a third nursery opened at its Al Warsan centre, where 40 children joined in the first phase. The capacity of this nursery will reach 87 children. “DEWA pays great attention to its employees, who are the basis of its success and excellence. DEWA is keen to providing a positive work environment that will motivate them to achieve excellence and success in their working and social lives. DEWA strives to meet all the needs of its employees that enhance their job satisfaction, and encourage them to pursue the highest standards of quality in all areas,” said Dr. Yousef Al Akraf, Executive Vice President of Business Support & Human Resources at DEWA. “Children nurseries of DEWA’s employees provide a positive work environment while supporting working mothers and helping them to achieve balance between their professional and personal lives. DEWA established the nurseries to support and empower working mothers at DEWA and provide a working environment that provides social and psychological care for mothers in their presence near their children, which is reflected positively on the performance of employees, and encourages them to join the workplace,” added Al Akraf. DEWA’s nurseries were set up in accordance with the highest international educational standards and have highly qualified teachers and supervisors who are specialised in teaching children under the age of four. The nurseries, providing all children requirements and tools as well as educational tools, are keen to organise educational and recreational activities which develop children’s mental abilities and contribute to their healthy upbringing. This helped raise parents satisfaction to 98.15%.
