Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) organised a workshop entitled “The Sustainable Executive” for its staff and coordinators of society happiness at DEWA to enhance their capabilities in sustainable CSR and voluntary work.  This event supports DEWA’s efforts to instil a culture of sustainability in all its operations and departments.

Twenty-one employees, divided into two batches, participated in the training workshop. The workshop addressed many sustainable topics including the basis of sustainable CSR, legislation, partners management and sustainability indicators, projects about sustainable communities, sustainability programmes, Social Return on Investment, preserving the environment, strategic prioritisation, social governance and risk management, excellence in community work, and guidelines for sustainability reports as per the global reporting initiative.

“DEWA works within the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to contribute to achieving all dimensions of sustainable development in Dubai, specifically the social one, within our vision to be a sustainable innovative world-class utility, and our strategic goals as a socially responsible government organisation. We are committed towards promoting this culture among partners and employees, as they are the foundation of DEWA’s success,” said HE Saeed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.

Al Tayer confirmed that DEWA has sustainability at the heart of its strategy, and is part of all its activities, as it is a crucial part of its vision and corporate values. “The goals of the “Sustainable Executive” workshop is aligned with our overall strategic goals and future plans to support sustainable development in Dubai and the UAE”.

“DEWA has achieved much in CSR and voluntary work and is one of the pioneering government organisations in this field. DEWA’s CSR efforts over the last few years have contributed to an increase in community satisfaction and happiness, from 82% in 2013, to 89% in 2016. We had 224 social and humanitarian initiatives in the last four years from 2013 till 2016, and 42,000 volunteer hours by DEWA employees during the same period. We are committed to launching more CSR and voluntary programmes that are sustainable, and providing the needed training for our employees in order to instil a culture of sustainability in all our initiatives, current and future programmes”.

“Our CSR and Voluntary Work Programme represents an important addition to our 27 community-based initiatives, ranging from 12 programmes covering various segments of community and humanitarian work. We have aligned CSR and voluntary strategy to the main objectives of the Year of Zayed, which has been declared by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, to engage all community members in achieving the vision of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan in fulfilling unity and development for people locally, regionally and internationally,” Al Tayer concluded.
