HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), has inaugurated DEWA Innovation Week. DEWA organised this as part of its participation in UAE Innovation Month. UAE Innovation Month was announced by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, with the theme, ‘Innovation starts with you,’ to foster a culture of innovation. It also supports the National Innovation Strategy to make the UAE one of the most innovative countries in the world, and to continue the journey of success achieved by UAE Innovation Month since its launch.
Al Tayer confirmed that DEWA Innovation Week supports the vision of the wise leadership, represented by, HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE; HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai; and HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
“Our exceptional leadership who could see things from different perspective to create a future for generation after generation, and who accomplished great achievements, and adopted a knowledge revolution in various fields under a comprehensive vision that supports knowledge-based economy, deploys latest technologies and invests in brilliant minds and fosters innovation and ideas of creatives, and instil innovation as a daily practice and a corporate routine within government organisations,” said Al Tayer.
“At DEWA, as we launch our innovation week, we confirm that innovation is an integrated and coherent part of DEWA’s plans and services. It contributes to our vision to become a sustainable innovative world-class utility, and in support of the National Innovation Strategy to make the UAE one of the most innovative nations in the world, as well as the Dubai Innovation Strategy to make Dubai the most innovative city in the world. DEWA has incorporated innovation within its vision and established strategic innovation to raise its importance as a theme to encompass 40% of DEWA’s strategic map. DEWA has included strategic objectives within its strategy map with a focus on envisioning the future, innovation, and the happiness of stakeholders. It has established an innovation team of experts and innovators from different sectors. Throughout the years, DEWA’s efforts in creating innovative solutions have culminated in great results in terms of saving time and efforts, keeping pace with the 4th Industrial Revolution, and adopting AI, robotics and IoT technologies to support the Dubai 10X initiative, which is set to propel Dubai towards a better future, for generations to come,” added Al Tayer.
“Our efforts also contributed to making the UAE, represented by DEWA, first in the world for getting electricity, as per the World Bank’s Doing Business 2018 report. We achieved over 170 prestigious awards locally and internationally during the past 3 years. The rate of our smart services adoption is 85.9%, while customer happiness reached 97% in 2017. We recently announced during the World Government Summit 2018 the launch of a new initiative that reimagines the concept of service organisations, and creates new digital future for Dubai through DEWA Digital, the digital arm of DEWA. DEWA Digital will enable us to apply a pioneering model for service organisations based on innovation in renewable energy, energy storage, AI, and digital services. DEWA aims to shift the status quo of services organisations and transform into the first digital organisation in the world, with self-control systems for storing renewable energy and expanding the areas of use of AI and digital services,” continued Al Tayer.
Al Tayer highlighted that DEWA’s journey in innovation is a never ending one: every milestone that it reaches then provides the motivation to reach another one. Al Tayer asked attendees to participate in the Innovation Week and its 71 different events, of which take place at its headquarters and branches. The events include an AI Hackathon for staff, participation from various sectors, robotics workshops, innovations by people of determination, as well as inspiring sessions about innovation and innovators, and specialised seminars about latest innovative technologies, 3D printing, smart grids and others. Moreover, DEWA is organising innovative events in Zayed Innovation Oasis featuring various activities including Zayed Year Exhibition in Zayed Innovation Oasis next to the Future Interactive Exhibition.
At the end of the event, Al Tayer congratulated DEWA employees for their achievements. He confirmed that these achievements wouldn’t have happened without their hard work and commitment towards DEWA’s innovative position world-wide. Al Tayer also urged them to continue with the same spirit to help support the UAE to become one of the most innovative countries in the world, in line with the leadership’s vision.
