Al Tayer to DEWAs teams We fully support you and we aim to rank first

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) stressed on DEWA higher management’s support for its male and female teams in the Gov Games. The Gov Games was launched by HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council and Chairman of Dubai Sports Council, under the theme “One Team. One Goal”. The initiative aims to promote team work and reinforce team spirit among government employees.

This support was extended during a meeting held between Al Tayer and the members of the two teams, in the presence of Dr. Yousef Al Akraf, EVP of Business Support and Human Resources, and Head of DEWA’s Sports Committee, and Khawla Al Mehairi, EVP of Strategy & Government Communications at DEWA, and Chairperson of DEWA Women's Committee. DEWA’s female team includes Sara Alfalasi, Nada Omar, Suad Sultan, Fatima Abdullah, Rawdha Al Mansouri, and Raouia Hamiche; while the male team includes Mana Al Doubi, Faisal Al Saleh, Omar Alkhaja, Malik Jumaan, Walid Yari and Mohammad Aldanbra.

“DEWA participates in the Gov Games to support the objectives of this first of its kind and innovative initiative, and to consolidate the value of sports and principles amongst government employees. This achieves the vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to promote government work to the highest levels and make Dubai rank first in all fields. We thank HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, for launching such innovative initiatives to support government work, and develop the youth’s experiences, enhance their skills, and enable them to play an active role in development and shaping the future. HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has leadership qualities that are a model for renewed ambitions, creativity, and positivity. His Highness's vision is clear in many aspects of growth and development in Dubai and the UAE, through his administrative, organisational, economic, cultural, social and sports achievements,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.

Dr. Yousef Al Akraf, EVP of Business Support and Human Resources, and Head of DEWA’s Sports Committee, emphasised that DEWA follows up the trainings of its teams participating in Gov Games, and is committed to provide all their requirements at the highest levels. He highlighted that the initiatives being launched by HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum continue the journey of excellence, established by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to offer a decent life for citizens and residents of the UAE.

Khawla Al Mehairi, EVP of Strategy & Government Communications at DEWA, and Chairperson of DEWA Women's Committee, praised DEWA’s higher management for its support to DEWA Women's Committee and female sports, and its keenness on encouraging female employees to take part in sports competitions to ensure a balance between their personal and professional lives. She stated that DEWA Women's Committee seeks to make sports an integral part of women’s lifestyle. DEWA organises sports events for its female employees throughout the year. The women's sports teams participate in many sports competitions at all levels and have achieved excellent results and won many titles in individual and group games in those competitions.

The participants of DEWA’s teams thanked Al Tayer and its higher management for providing the employees with such an enthusiastic and encouraging work environment. This help the employees enhance their capabilities and achieve enormous progress in their personal and professional lives. They affirmed their readiness to represent DEWA in the competition.

“Sports are a lifestyle, a hobby, a spiritual outlet and a breather for me. I love games that encourage teamwork so I chose to join the women's basketball team. I was honoured to represent the UAE in the Gulf Championship three times in a row. On a personal level, I adore the challenge, and I hate to surrender, as being positive makes possible what was impossible. I would like to thank the Government of Dubai and our honourable rulers for launching this initiative, and I would like to thank DEWA for its unlimited support and encouragement,” said Sara Alfalasi.

“I am a professional horse rider. I usually take part in in national and international races that cover a distance of 100km to 160km. I enjoy physical activities like cross-fit, obstacle races and triathlons. I love to acquire new skills that help me achieve an optimal performance. I believe that challenges help in mental growth and physical strength. I’m thrilled and honoured to be part of DEWA’s women team. DEWA always encourages, supports and create opportunity for employees to achieve their optimum potential,” said Nada Omar.

“I am a football player since a young age and have practices this sport for a long time. I was the first to suggest the formation of DEWA Women's Committee to raise awareness and encourage female employees to participate in sports activities. I have represented DEWA in many sports such as handball, basketball, football, road racing and table tennis. I was honoured for winning the best futsal player in 2014. I recently joined the Future Handball referees programme; I hope to be the first Emirati handball referee to govern men’s matches in Asia. I participated as a referee of the Special Olympics in Abu Dhabi and it was an interesting and enjoyable experience,” said Rawdha Al Mansouri.

“I am a professional player in many sports like basketball, handball, volleyball and football. The Gov Games is a unique, huge and interesting event, which is a new experience for me. I would like to thank DEWA for granting me the opportunity to go to this great challenge,” said Fatima Abdullah.

“I have been a runner and athlete since I was young. It was a hobby and became a part of my daily life with time. I feel that it gives me a positive energy, happiness and joy of life. I have also led an initiative called ‘She Runs for Dubai’, and have organised several running activities for females in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah. I am happy to participate in the Gov Games to represent DEWA and the UAE females sport in general,” said Suad Sultan.

“There is nothing can prevent woman from practicing sports. I am a karate player and I got a black belt 1 Dan since 2002. When I joined DEWA, DEWA women's committee encouraged me to continue my sport life. I have learnt that work does not prevent me from exercising. I am currently practicing karate and also started to practice handball,” said Raouia Hamiche.

“I am a former football player in Al Shaab Sports Club. After retirement because of reaching 30 years old, I decided to practice Cross Fit to regain my physical fitness. I also participated in local and regional competitions and achieved several advanced positions,” said Mana AlDoubi, the team leader of DEWA men’s team.

“I have practiced sports since childhood and my ambition has always been to reach the higher levels as an athlete. I appreciate the unlimited support of DEWA in creating a sports culture that always makes me feel better,” said Walid Yari.

“I am glad to be one member of an amazing team representing DEWA in the Gov Games. We focus throughout our preparation for the competition on achieving the first place. I would like to thanks DEWA higher management for providing us with all our training needs,” said Malik Jumaan.

Faisal Al Saleh emphasised that DEWA team is ready mentally and physically for the competitions, and stated that the team is determined to win the first place. 

“I love all kinds of sports, I keep practicing regularly and continuously to develop my fitness level and physical strength. I also participate in sports competitions to challenge myself and gain experience. Now, I am part of DEWA’s team to compete in the Gov Games. I am so happy with our fitness level and spirit of teamwork,” said Omar Alkhaja.

“I have been interested in sports since I was young. I started to learn Karate at an early age, and have taken part in many tournaments and challenges until I achieved the Black Belt 3 Dan. I also practice fitness and swimming. I thank DEWA for its trust and choosing me as a member of its team, as well as for taking care of the team and following up all preparations and exercises,” said Mohammad Aldanbra.

DEWA’s team takes part in 10 Gov Games to test their mental skills and physical strength from 9 to 12 May 2018, at Kite Beach, Dubai.
