Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) increased the capacity of its nursery in Al Warsan building by adding a new classroom that accommodates 15 additional children in the 2-to-3-year old age group, bringing the nursery’s total number of children to 102. This comes in line with DEWA’s eagerness to ensure employee happiness and welfare, and provide an ideal and stimulating work environment for its female staff.
HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, expressed his pleasure at achieving the goals of establishing DEWA’s nurseries, namely providing a positive working environment for working mothers, ensuring their happiness. Female employee happiness with the nurseries reached 98%, reflecting their satisfaction with the level of care and education provided by DEWA’s nurseries to their children.
“We are eager to develop DEWA’s nurseries, increase their capacities, and enhance their performance in supporting psychological, family, and career stability of our female employees. This comes as part of our efforts to strengthen society by empowering women, in line with the vision of our wise leadership. DEWA started its nurseries in 2010 for that particular purpose, and we can witness the results today through increasing productivity, performance and efficiency at work, benefitting society as a whole. DEWA was one of the first government entities to establish nurseries in support of working mothers and today, we have the largest number of nurseries amongst government entities in Dubai,” said Al Tayer.
“We will continue to develop DEWA’s nurseries to accommodate as many children of female employees as possible. DEWA established the first nursery in February 2010 with 40 children. Another nursery opened with 48 children in the Sustainable Building at Al Quoz in April 2013, and the third nursery opened at DEWA’s Al Warsan building, accommodating 102 children after this expansion. The total number of children at the three nurseries is 190 children,” said Dr Yousef Al Akraf, Executive Vice President of Business Support and Human Resources at DEWA.
