DEWA celebrates International Workers’ Day

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has organised activities for workers to celebrate International Workers’ Day, which takes place every 1 May. HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, and Executive Vice Presidents and Vice Presidents of DEWA greeted DEWA’s workers on International Workers’ Day and wished them well on the forthcoming Holy Month of Ramadan.

“Celebrating International Workers’ Day is particularly important during the Year of Tolerance, which expresses the UAE's approach to consolidating the values of tolerance, brotherhood, and co-existence. The UAE welcomes over 200 nationalities from different cultures and beliefs, living in peace and harmony, diligently and sincerely contributing to the development process. Over 11,000 employees from 66 nationalities work at DEWA, providing world-class services to over 900,000 customers in Dubai. We are committed to protecting the rights of workers and providing a positive environment that helps develop their skills and knowledge, and balances their professional and social lives. DEWA was the first government utility in the UAE to join the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) and adopt its ten basic principles in human rights, labour, environment, and anti-corruption,” said Al Tayer.

“On International Workers’ Day, I commend the efforts of our employees who helped make DEWA a role model in efficiency and excellence, achieving the happiness of customers and society as a whole. Our practices have become a reference for global organisations. We are proud to strengthen the UAE’s competitiveness that has become a benchmark for governments seeking to improve their performance and achieve the happiness of their people. DEWA’s employees contributed to the UAE, represented by DEWA, maintaining its global ranking as number one for the second consecutive year for getting electricity in the World Bank’s Doing Business 2019 report. DEWA also ranked first in the Happiness Index in the Large Government Entities category for the second consecutive year, with a 95% score in the Smart Dubai Happiness Index,” added Al Tayer.

During the activities, DEWA distributed Ramadan boxes on DEWA’s workers in Warsan. The workers expressed their happiness to take part in the activities. They commended the care DEWA gives to all its employees and its commitment to providing a safe and healthy working environment that makes them happier.
