DEWA staff train in corporate agility in collaboration with pioneering global organisations

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer. MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has organised an online training programme for 40 employees in collaboration with pioneering organisations in business agility in the UK. 20 employees in leading positions received Certified Agile Leadership (CAL) certificates, and 20 Agility Champions received Certified Scrum Master (CSM) certificates for agile project management, accredited by the Scrum Alliance. The training programme supports DEWA’s efforts to promote the capabilities of its staff and its strategy to implement enterprise agility across all its sectors.

“Organisations must always develop the capabilities of their staff to keep pace with changes and turn challenges into opportunities within a comprehensive system of integrated organisational work. DEWA’s resilience and agility played a key role in its success and excellence. This is done by identifying opportunities, analysing the internal and external environment, and defining stakeholders’ needs and turning them into strategic initiatives. DEWA’s practices have become a benchmark for many organisations around the world. Raising employees' skills in enterprise agility supports DEWA’s efforts to spread an agility-focused culture and practices. This will help make DEWA the first fully agile utility,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.

Al Tayer noted that DEWA and the British Standards Institution (BSI) launched the Business Agility Concept and Framework (PAS 1000:2019). This is the first-of-its-kind global guide for business agility.

Waleed Salman, Executive Vice President of Business Development & Excellence at DEWA, said that by the end of the year, an additional 60 DEWA staff will certify in enterprise agility, in cooperation with leading international organisations. This supports DEWA’s strategy to implement enterprise agility across all its sectors.

DEWA developed the PAS 60518:2020-Enterprise Risk & Resilience Management standard for the utility sector in collaboration with BSI and other pioneering world-class utilities. The standard is a reference for utilities and a key enabler for advancing risk management and resilience, so they can ensure their business continuity and handle emergencies as competently and efficiently as possible.
