“I am pleased to congratulate His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE; His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai; and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, on today’s historic achievement of beginning commercial operations of the first nuclear power plant Barakah, the first Arab nuclear power plant. This comes as a result of the wise leadership’s vision, which knows no impossibility or limitations, to ensure a brighter future for generations to come. This is done by balancing consumption with production, committing to global environmental standards, and providing an economic environment that encourages growth in all sectors. The Barakah nuclear power plant supports the UAE Energy Strategy 2050 to increase the contribution of clean energy in the total energy mix and provide 50% of the energy capacity from clean energy sources including 6% from nuclear energy. It also supports the UAE’s Nuclear Power Programme which contributes to diversifying energy resources and consolidates the country’s efforts to reduce it carbon footprint,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.

“This unique achievement adds to the record of achievements by the sons and daughters of Zayed, which is full of milestones and key successes to reach outer space. It is especially important as it was made by young Emiratis. This was also achieved during the Year of the Fiftieth in which we celebrate the Golden Jubilee of the UAE’s Foundation, crowning the Emirati people’s journey over the past 50 years and becoming a starting point for 50 more years of progress and prosperity. This makes the UAE the world’s leading nation by its centennial in 2071,” said Al Tayer.
