Milestone as DEWA becomes the first UAE organisation to obtain the ISO/IEC 17020:2012 accreditation

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has obtained the ISO/IEC 17020:2012 certification, adopted by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). This accomplishment makes DEWA the first organisation in the UAE to receive accreditation for conducting inspections on power distribution network assets in adherence to the highest standards of efficiency, accuracy, compliance and reliability.

The accreditation is in recognition of DEWA’s tireless efforts to enhance network performance and ensure stable and efficient energy distribution. Routine inspections of distribution network assets are important as they boost network reliability, reduce malfunctions and ensure the safety of equipment and employees. These measures also raise operational efficiency and sustainability through early detection of problems and preventive action.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, praised the commitment of DEWA’s technical teams in achieving the highest standards of quality and excellence, and their keenness to continuously develop inspection processes to ensure the continued provision of world-class services and enhance the confidence of stakeholders in DEWA’s pivotal role in driving outstanding transformation in the energy sector.

“In line with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, we are committed to maintaining our leading global position, enhancing our competitiveness and topping the key performance indicators in our areas of work, as one of the most innovative and distinguished utilities in the world. In 2024, DEWA achieved the lowest electricity customer minutes lost (CML) in the world, with Dubai recording just 0.94 minutes per customer, significantly lower than the 15-minute average of leading European utilities. We adopt innovation and the latest disruptive technologies to keep pace with the growing demand for energy and provide supplies according to the highest standards of availability, sustainability and reliability, in addition to automating the distribution network and implementing the best maintenance plans to enhance the quality of life and happiness of stakeholders,” added Al Tayer.
