Under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) and the World Green Economy Organization (WGEO) organised the 11th edition of the World Green Economy Summit (WGES), under the theme ‘Innovating for Impact: Accelerating the Future of the Green Economy’.

HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, inaugurated the summit that was widely attended by leaders, ministers, officials and experts from around the world.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, MD and CEO of DEWA and Chairman of WGEO, emphasised that WGES has become a specialised and pioneering global platform that effectively contributes to supporting the green economy globally and enhancing the UAE’s pioneering role in climate action and sustainable development. This is achieved by providing a space for discussing policies and strategies, exchanging expertise, knowledge and innovative solutions that contribute to achieving a balance between economic growth and protecting the environment, as well as supporting the transition towards a sustainable green economy in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals 2030.

Al Tayer pointed out that this year’s summit was an opportunity to highlight the UAE’s successful model in achieving a balance between economic development and environmental sustainability, and to highlight key local experiences in clean and renewable energy and green technology, supporting international efforts and reflecting the UAE’s leadership in advancing the green economy globally.

Practical steps to support the green economy

HE Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, said: “The World Green Economy Summit 2025 reflects the UAE's commitment to translating the outcomes of COP28 into practical steps that support the transition toward a sustainable green economy. It also serves as a leading international platform for dialogue and partnership-building, through which the country – guided by its wise leadership – continues its pioneering role in promoting investment in clean energy, reducing emissions and developing innovative solutions that strike a balance between economic growth and environmental protection, ensuring a more prosperous future for coming generations.”

He added: “The UAE has established itself as a global model in climate action through the launch of pioneering national strategies such as the UAE Energy Strategy 2050, the National Hydrogen Strategy 2050 and the UAE Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative. These are complemented by strategic investments in clean and renewable energy projects, which reflect the UAE’s practical commitment to turning visions into tangible achievements that contribute to sustainable development.”

Global platform

HE Dr Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, said: “The World Green Economy Summit (WGES) embodies the UAE’s forward-looking vision to scale the latest advances in technology across industries, along a unified pathway of progress and sustainable growth. Guided by wise leadership, WGES underscores our determination to harness the potential of renewable and low carbon energy, artificial intelligence (AI) and sustainable manufacturing as transformative enablers of smart industrial development. It provides a global platform to shape strategies, forge impactful partnerships and accelerate the deployment of advanced solutions that will lay the foundations of a sustainable, inclusive and competitive economy for generations to come. In line with the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 Strategy, we are embedding sustainability at the very core of our industrial ecosystem while fostering economic diversification, knowledge transfer and the creation of future-ready jobs. WGES stands as a powerful catalyst for international co-operation and innovation, driving tangible progress toward a low carbon economy and reinforcing the UAE’s position as a global leader in climate action.”

Focal point of meeting

HE Dr Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of State for Foreign Trade, said: “The UAE remains steadfast in its commitment to the green economy, fostering climate resilience and accelerating the energy transition. This summit serves as a vital meeting point for global leaders and innovators to collaborate, share insights and forge pathways that will not only bolster economic growth but also safeguard our planet for future generations. By leveraging our collective expertise, we can drive sustainable practices and increase trade and investment that achieves global prosperity, reinforcing the UAE’s role as a leader in the global green agenda.”

A firm commitment to sustainability

HE Dr Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, said: “The World Green Economy Summit powerfully affirms the UAE’s commitment to a sustainable future. The green economy presents a substantial economic opportunity, alongside its environmental imperative. By strategically deploying capital into sustainable projects, we overcome environmental limitations, concurrently generating new industries and employment. This transformation demonstrates how sustainability and economic growth advance in concert, as evidenced by frameworks like Net Zero 2050 and our Circular Economy Policy. We are resolutely committed to escalating investment in renewable energy and developing groundbreaking sustainable solutions. Co-operation and collaboration form the bedrock of this undertaking. We believe that by unifying resources, exchanging insights and promoting public-private alliances, we can accelerate the global shift to a truly green economy. This summit convenes global leaders, key participants and decision-makers to spur innovation and empower communities to ensure that, collectively, we shape a sustainable and prosperous future for everyone.”
