HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), welcomed a high-level delegation led by HE Christoph Ploß (Ploss), Germany’s Federal State Secretary for Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy, at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park.

The meeting was attended by senior DEWA officials, including Marwan Bin Haidar, Executive Vice President of Innovation and the Future, Dr Yousef Al Akraf, Executive Vice President of Business Support and Human Resources, and Dr Aaesha Abdulla Alnuaimi, Director of the Sustainability and Innovation Centre.

Al Tayer commended the strong collaboration with Germany, noting that it reinforces the UAE’s position as a global hub for clean energy technologies. He reiterated DEWA’s commitment to its pioneering role in adopting advanced and future-ready solutions.

During the meeting, Al Tayer presented DEWA’s major initiatives and innovative projects that support the vision of the wise leadership to promote sustainability and accelerate the transition to a green economy. He spoke about landmark projects such as Al-Sheraa – the tallest, largest and smartest net-positive government building in the world – and the hydroelectric power station in Hatta, the first of its kind in the GCC region. The 250MW station will generate electricity using water stored in Hatta Dam.

Al Tayer also spoke about DEWA’s adoption of disruptive Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies, including AI, across its services and operations, supported by its investments in advanced digital infrastructure to drive transformation. These efforts align with the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, which aim to provide 100% of the emirate’s energy production capacity from clean sources by 2050.

The visiting delegation was briefed on progress at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the largest single-site solar park in the world. With a current capacity of 3,860 megawatts (MW), the solar park, which today accounts for 21.5% of Dubai’s total energy mix, is set to surpass 8,000MW by 2030 (up from the originally planned 5,000MW). This will raise clean energy’s share in Dubai’s energy mix to 36.1% (from the original target of 25%) and reduce annual emissions by over 8.5 million tonnes (compared to the initial estimate of 6.5 million tonnes).

Underscoring DEWA’s global leadership, Al Tayer noted its commitment to continuous benchmarking against global best practice. DEWA ranks first worldwide across 12 key performance indicators (KPIs), including the world’s lowest electricity interruption rates and line losses, while setting global benchmarks in customer satisfaction and demonstrating unmatched institutional ability to anticipate and adapt to future challenges.
