Saeed Al Tayer: In 2009 we made savings in electricity and water consumption worth 97 million Dirham. In line with the attempts of constructing a strategic partnership between governmental institutions and departments and to unify the efforts exerted to raise environmental awareness and foster a culture of rational consumption of electricity and water, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), signed a memorandum of understanding with the Dubai Police. The aim of that agreement is to establish a strategic partnership, and raise environmental awareness and instilling a culture of rational consumption of electricity and water right across police facilities in Dubai. The ceremony was honored by the presence of His Excellency Lt. General Dahi Khalfan Tamim, Dubai Police Chief and His Excellency, Saeed Mohammad Al Tayer, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, and a number of senior officers and officials from both parties in Dubai Police Head Office. After signing the MoU, Dhai Khalfan said: This partnership originated from our deep understanding of the importance of rationalization in order to preserve environmental resources. In this sense, we are very keen to instill a culture that promotes the rationalization of energy and water resources consumption among all Dubai Police staff and employees . He added We are proud to partner with DEWA as it is the competent authority that provides energy and electricity to the Emirate of Dubai, as well as its extensive experience in launching rationalization campaigns. We are confident of the positive results of this partnership on all Dubai Police staff. H.E. Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, said This MoU comes under the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum - Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai - God Bless him – in order to unite the efforts of different governmental institutions and departments to leverage their performance to the highest levels of integrations. He added This MoU also reinvigorate efforts to raise environmental awareness and instill a culture of rational utility consumption of electricity and water in Dubai Police and its facilities, as well as supporting Dubai Police by all means that will help them preserve our natural resources form wastage and attrition. H.E pointed out We anticipate by signing this MoU to increase our coordination and cooperation in all fields, especially in raising the awareness of Dubai Police employees of the reduction concept and other environmental issues, in addition to exchange knowledge, experiences that falls in both parties concerns, particularly in the area of environmental works and the preservation of our natural resources as well as pursuing more achievement in the journey of sustainable development. In the process we also hope to enrich both party's skills and talents as well. Al Tayer explained … the energy-efficiency programs implemented by the Authority in partnership with consumers in 2009, has achieved good results, where we were able to reduce electricity consumption by more than 201 million kWh, and one billion and 38 million gallons of water, and by total value of approximately 97 million Dirhams. On the other hand, Dubai Police during the past year saved 1 million and 715 thousand dirhams, as we expect - after the activation of this MoU – to increase savings by a remarkable results and to serve our shared aspirations of the public good. Finally, H.E. said This MoU will have a positive impact on our cooperation and will support our teamwork efforts with Dubai Police to achieve the greatest possible savings in the consumption of electricity and water. It will also help us to conduct technical and engineering tests related to the consumption of electricity and water as well as create new and innovative mechanism to implement an integrated system of communication between both parties
