Dubai's Energy Sector strengthens the Cooperation with China

In the framework of experience and knowledge exchanges in the area of energy and looking at the best international practices in the framework of experience and knowledge exchanges on the usage of conventional power plant technologies (using Ultra Super Critical Power Plant-Coal and Synthetic Gas) to generate electricity and produce desalinated water, a high level delegation representing the energy sector in Dubai visited to the People's Republic of China to look at the latest global practices in the area of sustainable energy and the diversification of its sources. The delegation was headed by HE Saeed Al Tayer, Vice-Chairman of the Supreme Energy Council, MD and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) along with other members and representatives of the Supreme Council for Energy and DEWA. The delegation conducted field visits to closely look at the best standards and technologies used in coal power plants in the People's Republic of China. The delegation held a meeting with the Chinese representatives Mr. Zimin Gao, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Shenzhen Company delegation, and Mr. Huilong Wang, its CEO as well a number of senior officials. The two delegations agreed on several areas of cooperation and identified the initiatives that will be considered in the coming period. The head of delegation, HE Saeed Al Tayer said:our visit comes in line with Dubai's strategy to diversify the sources of energy and to meet the growing future needs through the use of a variety of sources to generate electricity and water focusing on the highest international standards in environmental preservation and safety. The modern plant was launched in 2008 with a production capacity reaching 1200 megawatts best technologies in its design, efficiency and the preservation of the environment were introduced. Its efficiency reached 45%, and that is highly compared with the efficiency of the plants that run on natural gas or Liquefied Natural Gas. The techniques that have been also developed, enabled the reduction of waste in the water during the cooling process close to near zero, and the gas emissions NOx were at the minimum international standards, HE added. The efficiency of fuel produced by burning charcoal inside the station reached 99%, and the emissions of sulfur oxidized were at low levels, and therefore isolated from the coal fuel during the burning process. It is worth mentioning that during our visit to the station and looking at the reports of the operation and maintenance was confirmed to match the actual performance design of the station and specifically its efficiency and environmental conservation, HE concluded. The delegation also had field visits to several cities in the People's Republic of China particularly a plant which generated electricity through coal technology using high-resolution and high efficiency (Ultra Super Critical Power Plant). The use of coal technology in the production of electricity and water desalination, is considered one of the long-term initiatives and strategy of the emirate of Dubai as part of alternatives to the energy mix using the best universally adopted techniques, allowing an opportunity for effective management of energy resources currently available and contribute to long-term support strategy in Dubai diversify the national economy and achieve sustainable development for generations to come. The Supreme Energy Council in Dubai was formed under the law no. (19) of the year 2009 issued by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and chaired by His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum to overview the energy sector of Dubai.
