As part of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority’s (DEWA’s) strategy and social responsibility to empower female employees and enhance their roles and participation in society and the workplace, it’s organizing various activities during this month to raise awareness about breast cancer. These activities include sending medical leaflets with bills, an informative newsletter about breast cancer; its causes, methods of diagnosis and performing periodical examinations for early detection, and organizing and holding awareness lectures at DEWA’s Head Office in coordination with the Ministry of Health in Dubai. During these activities, Dr. Asmaa Al Janahy and Ms. Kriman Bozo from the Ministry of Health giving lectures in Arabic and in English. DEWA’s Corporate Communication Department organized awareness campaigns to female students at schools and universities about Breast Cancer. The campaign included educational lectures and a cultural carnival, which comprised games and testing educational skills. The Department arranged for free-of-charge medical examinations for female students and teachers by a specialist medical team from the Ministry of Health and the National Committee on Early Detection of Breast Cancer. Also, souvenirs with the emblem of “World Breast Cancer Day” were given out to all the attendees. “This campaign supports DEWA’s strategy to protect against breast cancer through early detection. Furthermore, our campaign intends to strengthen a positive and healthy culture within society to prevent this serious disease,” said Khawla Al Mehairi – VP Marketing and Corporate Communications at DEWA. “These activities also show how DEWA’s strategy aims to empower its female staff, and enhance their effective roles in all aspects of society. The activities included training female employees, under the supervision of Doctors from the Dubai Health Authority, and carrying out self-examinations to detect this disease as early as possible. These activities will definitely, promote women’s role in society and empower them through knowledge, education, self-development and medical knowledge. This campaign has been praised and welcomed by all our ladies across the many departments and divisions of DEWA,” added Al Mehairi.
