As part of the closing ceremony of Dubai Government’s Achievements Exhibition 2011, Dubai Government Excellence Programme has honored Dubai Electricity and Water Authority for its support and contribution to the success of the exhibition. DEWA was honored as a Golden Sponsor of the exhibition. HE Abdullah Al Shebani, Secretary General of The Executive Council and Chairman of Dubai Government Excellence Programme presented the Award to Khawla Al Mehairi, VP–Marketing and Corporate Communications at DEWA. “DEWA seeks to achieve the vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to empower the government sector to optimize its systems, performance, services and outcomes. DEWA intends to continuously strive to achieve excellence in performance through implementing the international model of excellence and innovation, as well as pursuing its development initiatives to promote a culture of excellence for government employees,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA. “DEWA has made great strides in its ongoing efforts to implement the strategy of the Government of Dubai to promote sustainable development in the Emirate of Dubai and enhance it as a global hub for finance, business and tourism. DEWA’s participation in the exhibition was a great success, as HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council, visited DEWA’s stand, which also received a record number of visitors. DEWA spares no effort to support and sponsor such initiatives and events that promote Dubai’s pioneering role,” His Excellency added. “DEWA displayed its recent numerous achievements, future projects and unique services to meet the needs and expectations of nationals, residents, and the business sector in the Emirate. DEWA provides the best services for its customers in accordance with international standards, so as to achieve their highest levels of satisfaction,” said Dr. Yousef Al Akraf, EVP—Business Support at DEWA. “DEWA displayed the international awards it achieved, such as the Hall of Fame Award in Strategic Planning, The Sword of Honour in Safety and Health, and many others for its efforts to encourage society to save electricity and water. Also on display was a specialized vehicle that detects and diagnoses faults in cables,” said Dr. Al Akraf. DEWA put on display its services and projects in the power and water sector, including models of new projects such as control centres at Warsan and Al Qusais and the Hassyan Project I Independent Power Plant, which is the first project to produce electricity in partnership with the private sector. DEWA has also presented cutting-edge technologies it intends to implement, such as clean coal technologies in power generation, and the establishment of the Dubai Carbon Centre of Excellence, which is regarded as a milestone in preserving the environment.
