HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA has inaugurated the events of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority’s celebrations of the 40th National Day under the theme of Spirit of The Union in the presence of DEWA senior staff, at DEWA’s Headquarters. The celebrations were held within a heritage tent, which included products of the producing families in collaboration with the Social Development Centre, a traditional Emirati wedding, displays by local scout groups, military displays and a poetry reading by the Emirati poet Rashid Sharar with other local poets, including Abdullah Al Jabri, Salim Mohammed Al Kabee, and Sajaya Al Rooh. As part of its celebrations, DEWA sponsored the display of a range of religious, social, and cultural events from the UAE. These included sports championships, including sponsoring the UAE women national team for volleyball, the 2nd December Basketball Championship and sponsoring events organized by the Al-Siddiq Center for Learning Glorious Qur’an & Islamic Sciences under the theme of Love of Country is second to Faith. Fostering the concept of existence, which is part of the theme of Spirit Of The Union, DEWA has sponsored the celebrations of Dubai Educational Zone, attended by Sheikh Majid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Culture & Arts Authority. These celebrations encompassed various cultural, folklore and public events and parades of students, as well as heritage dances from different countries of the world. On this occasion, HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA delivered a speech extending his sincere congratulations to HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and the Sheikhs and the Members of The Supreme Council of The Union, The Rulers of the all the Emirates, Deputy Rulers, Sheikhs and all the Emirati people. “Our celebrations reflect the idea that connects us together under one flag – the Spirit of the Union, which was derived from the Late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and is maintained by our judicious leadership headed by HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and the other Sheikhs of the Emirates,” said His Excellency. “In coincidence with the UAE’s Spirit Of The Union celebrations of its 40th National Day, DEWA has held a number of heritage events, which are part of DEWA’s strategy and social initiatives, aiming to foster and consolidate national identity, as well preserving the deep-rooted Emirati values, which enhance the culture of national loyalty and belonging.” “This occasion has an important national dimension, which abounds in pride, dignity and ambitions achieved by the great march of union. Today, our beloved country pursues the march of progress and development led by HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to foster the UAE leading position on the world map. Our country has worked miracles in different developmental, faeconomic and social fields during very few years.” “HH Sheikh Khalifa has adopted the strategy of transition from the stage of establishing to the stage of empowering. His Highness has paid considerable care and attention to empowering our developing economy in the fields of trade, culture, health and education, as well as strengthening women’s rights in all aspects. During the celebrations, and after the band performed the national anthem, HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, cut the cake especially-made for the occasion, in the presence of DEWA’s top officials. His Excellency received a souvenir shield from Mohammed Al Amadi, Director General of Dubai Autism Center, in recognition of DEWA’s support and care for the centre’s various social activities. These celebrations were attended by DEWA’s staff, top officials of local departments, members of Women’s Committee at DEWA, as well as a big number of DEWA’s customers. Afterwards, His Excellency reviewed the various events and activities held on this occasion, including the heritage tent, which displayed home-made gifts and traditional products made by local families, a photo studio, falcons, a heritage exhibition and henna tattoing. Other traditional dishes on offer during the celebrations included Khameer, Al Lukaymat, Al Ruqaq, Khabees and other dishes. After that HE attended the poetry session, which provide a distinct and unique flavor to the celebrations. During the session, poets recited poetry demonstrating their love for the UAE. Large numbers of visitors watched performances by military and folklore displays.
